This thread that is.

Reading some of the comments about the WTA here, and about the sister forums site, WTAworld, has made me curious as to this forum's membership's interest in the world of tennis played by the fairer sex.

I had always assumed that a person's interest in tennis would be split 50/50, one half of intertest and fanaticism for the men and the other half for the women. I've always been 50/50, leaning towards the WTA but since Sampras stopped dominating Wimbledon I got into the ATP too.

I was niave though, as it turns out that some people don't watch the men's game at all, and some don't watch the women's at all. In bigger numbers than I thought. My brother calls the women's game 'battle of the unforced errors', which sums up his attitude, but what about here?

So anyway, pick the option that reflects you and then witter on in this thread about why.

Someone always replies before I post the poll. :wavey:

:yeah:

Oh...and all that grunting and screaming likes banshees. Yuck.
I like mens and womens tennis equally, but I guess if there is any difference I like the lower ranked women slightly more, and for top players I like watching the men slightly more.
I visit wtaworld a bit more, that option isnt on the poll though. Just because all results are posted there all the time, including challengers and qualifying, and that doesnt happen here.
I like both :)
I like both sides but avoid WTAworld like the plague.

Reason: I found MTF first and I heard some comments about WTAworld being weird with crazy williams sister fans so I avoid :)

I clearly watch much more men's tennis. I don't think all the women matches are crappy, but most of the matches don't interest me so much and most of the time I only watch it when some of my favourite female players are playing or when there is some other kind of important match. Also I don't post on WTAWorld regularly, only sometimes when I'm in the mood to do so or when something 'important' has happened.

Same with me, only I've never been to WTA world. I've been warned Lleyton Hewitt fans are not very welcome there.
I much prefer men's tennis over women's tennis. The difference between top players and those ranked 20-100 is way too big in the ladies game, resulting in very few upsets and a rather uninteresting first week of Grand Slams.
Having said that, I follow and watch WTA tennis, but it doesn't come close to ATP for me in any way.
I prefer men's tennis but like MTF and WTAworld. I follow Lindsay mainly on the WTA circuit!
Women's tennis is garbage and should not even be a sport. BTW, that's my personal opinion and I have my right to express it.
I follow the results of my favorite WTA players but the most WTA matches don't interest me. I've also never been to WTAworld and I don't think that I will visit it or maybe even sign up anytime soon. I just like it here better and prefer the ATP tour all the way. :D
I prefer Men's tennis over women's tennis. The only time I truly followed Women's tennis was when Serena dominated and Davenport, Kim, Justine, Venus, Jennifer and even Martina were nipping on her heels. Women's tennis was first rate. However since most of them have gotten sick and the "I AM THE BEST PLAYER" sharapova hit the scene, I avoid women's tennis. Sharapova is not that great a player, but her looks and the fact that everyone else has been out sick has somehow made her think she is the best women's tennis has seen. Whether you like Serena or not, there is no one who could truly say that Sharapova has even begun to reach the level of play Serena demonstrated during the Serena Slam. And while the tennis pontifs agree on that fact, I have to listen to mary carillo and mary joe fernandez constantly say, sharapova is better than serena...............At this point listening to those women, all I hear is jealousy.

As for Men's tennis, it is the best. So much variety and to become no. 1 in the world, it ACTUALLY requires the player to be the best. To be no. 1 in the world, you have to be able to beat the top 10 players in the world. So, even though I am a girl, I love men's tennis.

It seems there's some woman called Bitchkova on court right now  And winning too, the Russians must have a tennis women factory somewhere.

it's Bychkova :p and she isn't as much winning as Sveta is losing
I prefer women's but like MTF and WTAworld.

I do prefer women's  if you know what I mean.
Tati u're so damn hot! :hearts:
I hate WTA because when they screw up the ATP cpverage on Grand Slams....it is SO not fun to watch
The problem with the WTA is, it's identikit tennis. It's so hard to distinguish different styles of play among the top women, it's just a question of who hits big shots in and who doesn't. Plus if I do decide to support a player it invariably ends in me having to watch painful defeats, like Kuznetsova's today.

I've saved so much tape space and therefore money since I realised that there's no point in me taping any women's matches at Slams. This was finally brought home to me when I recorded the Henin-Pierce final at RG this year and midway through the trophy ceremony, thought to myself, "Under what possible circumstances will I ever want to see this match again?"

That's pretty much how I feel about most matches, why bother taping them? How often will I really go back and look at them? I have about 2 boxes full of taped tennis matches, and that's just last year and part of this year! I've gotten it down to 1 tape per slam, and only if it's an especially great match. Even then, I'm still probably not going to look at it again. Well, there's something to do in the off season, if I want to anyway...
