it looks like a trainwreck out there

Nadal @ 2% will still scoop Masters left and right.

the field is so weak it hurts, remember the late 90s? Muster, Guga, Corretja, Mantilla, Rios, Agassi, Ferrero etc etc

RIP Clay Tennis late 19th c. - 2013

Definitely not, given that the general level of tennis is much higher than in previous eras, but yes, it is comparatively weak considering how well the top players of today usually play. They all seem to suck right now. They would still eat the clay specialists of the 90's for breakfast though.

When Nadal can only beat Niahikori on clay due to a withdrawal, we know it is a weak clay era. Some Nadal fans actually celebrated that win which proves even they know how awful he is. Weakest clay era ever. Novak at 1% nearly beat Nadal playing an incredible match at last years FO. The stats give me so much life!

Yet, they didn't whine about immature robredo, gaudio, gonzalez, baby youzhny, davydenko, moya, safin, hewitt, ljubicic, dick, etc begging to lose in 2003-2006. Fed sympathizers didn't complain because he was handed the free coupling with nadal in finals.

The last 6 years, melzer, montanes, haas, youzhny, gulbis, volandri and djoker won titles or did well against clown fed.

Its generally a weak field. Not just clay. The generation after Nadal, Murray and Djokovic was just never to be found. When Dimitrov, Raonic and Nishikori is the best of them, its a pretty damn weak field. Nobody stepping up. Hopefully the generation after 1995 steps it up in 2 years a so.

Clay is faster and hard courts slower, so we don't exactly have a "clay field", we just have good and bad players everywhere.

This year is weak. But no worry guys it is only an exception. Will not be surprised the 2015 Nadull and 2015 Joker are better than the 2014 ones

We will get the answer at RG. If Dull wins RG, then yes.
This. In his current form, he should NOT win RG. If he does, we'll know that this field is a complete and utter joke of a trainwreck.

Clearly, fed was in the stronger era when he lost to gaudenzi. He has only one early loss the last 3 years, so he fought hard against such weak nadal and Djoker efforts.

Fwiw, here's Federer's 0-for-15 record at Foro Italico:

2000 - A. Medvedev, 2nd round
2001 - W. Ferreira, 3rd round, straight sets
2002 - A. Gaudenzi, 2nd round, straight sets
2003 - F. Mantilla, finals, straight sets
2004 - A. Costa, 3rd round
2005 - Withdrew due to back pain
2006 - R. Nadal, finals
2007 - F. Volandri, 3rd round, straight sets
2008 - Radek The Worm, quarters, straight sets
2009 - N. Djokovic, semis
2010 - E. Gulbis, 2nd round
2011 - R. Gasquet, 3rd round
2012 - N. Djokovic, semis
2013 - R. Nadal, finals
2014 - J. Chardy, 2nd round

 oh lord, not that whiny crap again.. don't you ever get tired of the clueless bulls#ite you post, jowilly?

nishiquitter didn't withdraw.. he retired.. i.e., he quit in tears cause he'd had enough, being the big girl that he is..

how in god's name does such a mental and physical weakling ever deserve to hold a masters1000 trophy? god forbid!

now for pete's sake.. give the whining a rest! nishiquitter's a big ole girl and as long as he remains a big ole girl, his only chances of winning a masters event will be over on the women's side..

Yet he was the finalist on 5 of Dull's RGs. Goes to show how strong the clay field has been during Dull's career.
