Of course Nadal is the clay GOAT. Add to that:

Djokovic: Wrist injury. Even if he gets healthier, he will not have practiced enough
Wawrinka: Inconsistent
Federer: Old shadow of his former self
Ferrer: Chokes in big matches
Berdych: Need I say anything
JMDP: Not even playing/ Seriously injured
Murray: Cannot really play well on clay

I would be more worried about his chances if he had an actual injury. Lack of confidence can easily be fixed (a couple of hard fought match wins, winning one/both of Madrid and Rome, etc.).

Seriously though, yeah, it is quite suspect -- if he doesn't win Madrid it really could put doubts although I still feel he wins Rome and would be the favorite in RG if Djokovic is not physically ready.

No. But with Djokovic unfit he is still favorite.

He's the favourite, but not a massive heavy favourite like he usually is. Nadal hasn't had a notable win all year (unless you count a NID dismissing of Olderer at AO as notable). He's been playing pretty abysmal tennis on clay so far, almost losing to Andujar at Rio early in the year and actually losing to Ferrer and Almagro in subsequent tournaments.

That being said it is still very difficult to imagine any player other than Novak actually having the balls to beat him in BO5 at RG.

Of course Nadal could suddenly rediscover his form and storm Madrid and Rome and all the 'Rafa is done' talk suddenly looks very foolish.

A jinx thread seems appropriate after he blitzed the GOAT clay field in Rio with peak form and then went on to lose a very clean match to one Spaniard in MC (they're always tough for him on clay) and an epically mentally strong match to another Spaniard in Barca.

!BAMO! Pretty much so.

Also, the carefully crafted narrative of "warrior fights back on pure spirit even in the worst form of his life to win when it matters" will be completed.

It might be fun if Nole only plays RG but is healthy. Gets a few rounds of practice, and gets in top form for final. It would be much less presure on him as he is counted for injured and unprepared. Maybe that would help him win against Nadal (who really plays bad for his standards) or anyone else in the final.

Wawrinka confirms his inconsistency!
At least Stan has shown he can either very good or quite bad in moments, no in between -- still not NID for Nadal but chances are he is still is the favorite (unless he loses against Monaco :scared:).

I mean he is fairly expected to win naturally after so many times.
