Is Djokovic really the best returner ever considering his record v big servers
People make out Nadal and Federer are far inferior returners to Djokovic and that Djokovic is better than even Agassi when it comes to return...but the spanner in the works is...he's not actually a great returner v big servers??and let's face it that's where return matters most. It's all fine and dandy returning Fabio or Sam Groth and others like that but when you have losing records against pretty much all big servers....Karlovic, Roddick(some would toss Federer in as well)... he isn't great v Isner either....surprisingly, Nadal hasn't even lost to guys like karlovic, Isner, Raonic etc...someone who is considered a much worse returner. :lol:

any reason why you're grouping together The Fog and Groth in any kind of serving category? when talking about the latter, "others like that" would clearly be Karlovic/Isner/Raonic/Anderson/Muller/De Schepper etc in terms of heavy duty serves.

When it comes to the big servers though, an on-song Federer takes the lead. Fast hand-eye and ability to improvise a short return which puts pressure on the bigger guys.

I'm yet to see anyone outside the Djokovic fanbase proclaim him the best returner ever. I don't think he is the best ever in any return categories and he's certainly not overall, not even in top 5 all-time overall. He's downright mediocre against big servers. Agressive return of second and weak first serves is his best feature, but even in that aspect there were better returners, including Nalbandian not so long ago.
He's the great returner against weak serves.
On clay Rafa's topspin return is much better. Fakervic hits many 180kmh topspin serve out on the other hand.

I am not trolling. You should look at the serve stats of their RG final last year.
Big servers, Federer is a sick returner, but Djokovic is still definitely, overall the best returner the game has ever seen. Agassi was mediocre and HE ADMITS IT. When asked, he claimed he used to 'guess' where Sampras was going, or spot specific tenancies he would do with itching his nose or touching his ear for relative to where he was going.
Djokovic has the best return of serve, defensive, attacking or neutralising.
As for Nadal, you can't really mention his name in a discussion to do with the best returners in the game. Murray is a better returner than Nadal.

He is great against the big servers. Federer, Birdshit, Tsonga etc. Those are big servers, just not tall big servers. The trajectory of the ball's flight changes with the tall guys.
