Coria’s was worse cause that was his best chance at a slam and he was leading by so much whereas Federer already has 20 slams and he has had a lot of heartbreak losses like that anyway.

Probably.

Coria was 2 sets up, and then totally crumbled. But he still had years to make it up for, and he wasn't playing for historical GOAT.

If Fed won that, he enters history with the most insane records at a time where Rafa and Novak are on his wheels.

It was a most unfortunate choke at the most unfortunate place and time.

The mother of all chokes, perhaps.

Never to be redeemed, unfortunately again, because he will be almost 39 by the next W final.

In reviewing the Coria match, he also had 2 match points on his own serve. Although, Coria serving on clay vs. Fed serving on grass is two different animals.

He may still have a shot at 2020W...

every year ppl say "Fed will be too old for another slam run next year"...and then Fed keeps making Wimbledon proving those speculations wrong.
But yeh the outcome of 40-15 is still a two-slam swing.

Could've been 21-19-15,
now it's 20-19-16, with Nadal surpassing Fed almost a lock

I doubt he's winning another slam, if not AO 2020.

As i wrote, he will be almost 39 by the time the W final comes. And he will know he can't afford any mistake, because he's not winning at 40 any slam.

You're not returning any better the older you get in the power age of tennis: he will have to stay longer on the court and battle it out, with the after-thought in the back of his head he doesn't belong anymore.

Too much pressure to erase 40-15: young guys will enter knowing they have a chance as long as they push him hard: they will be fed up with him standing in their way of success. All it takes is a 5-setter in rd3 and he will be cooked in rd4.

My guess is his time was this year, and he let it slip away. Too much efforts left on the court. Not enough time left.

Only for Fed fans and most of them got over it now.

On the other hand here it incited many Fed haters who were in hibernation till that moment. But you know what? Karma is a bitch so they will get their portion of misery in due time.

Coria

Look
If you had
One shot
Or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted
In one moment
Would you capture it
Or just let it slip?
He was UN BEA TA BLE on clay in those times, let me remind you ladies and gentlemen. And he was two sets up. And a bagel. And two matchpoints. Against a more or less mug in comparison to Coria. And he felt down like a cut tree.
