A lot of people on here talk about Nadal reaching 17 grand slams, however would it matter if he did not win another slam outside the French? Would the fact that his grand slams were so one sided mean that he still wouldn't be considered the GOAT?

Depends if he has played 15+ non RG finals does it mean he isnt versatile because he just didnt happen to win them. Anyways I think rafa will highly likely add more non-RG slams.. Considering he played 3/4 last grandslam finals..

Yes because he already has a career golden slam, and has won on each surface at least twice which Federer can't do. Add this to the stunning h2h, most masters 1000 titles, 10+ consecutive years with wins, etc. it's no contest.

12 french opens, that would be sweet :) good thread ;)

3 more FO seems very unlikely. Nobody won RG in his 30s since Gimeno in 1975 i think.

If i had to made a bet, it would be one more. Maybe two.

Rafa doesnt need 4 clay titles more, with one AO more, double calendar slam it will be enough to put a strong argument there. Triple calendar slam would be unbeatable.

9-3-3-3 would be amazing, lets it happen king...

To me he just proves (even more) that he's the best clay courter, not the best tennis player.
Even if he has like 20 non-rg slam finals ?

If he wins 3 more RG, he will have 17 slams, same as Roger, so... its debatable. Unless he wins a non-clay slam during that period.

to me the fact that his slam count is already so rediculously lopsided to one surface eliminates him from goat discussion. of the 14 slams he has 9 are on clay. clay goat yes, overall goat no.

Not in my mind he won't be, nope.
he's a phenomenon on clay but his lack of excellence clay rivals in 10 years has been a let down, Fed and Djoko are all time greats but neither of them are even what you'd call clay specialists.

He's the GOAT even now. 14, 17, 19 it doesn't matter.

At this point I bet even Bitcherer is thinking: "Rafito is the GOAT I just wish he's not going to beat the only record I have over him - my 17 slams." QQ

Honestly I don't think winning three more French Opens to reach 17 would enhance his legacy much further than he's already reached.

But then again, I don't fall into the group that believes figuring out the GOAT is simply a question of looking at the numbers.
