If Djokovic wins the Grand Slam ....

I know most people are not thinking about Nole winning all 4 slams this year ... but where would you put Nole's career if he wins all 4 slams this year. Would he enter the GOAT discussion?

Here is one prediction:

ED MCGROGAN: In his prime and the clear-cut top dog, the Serb has a chance to win the Grand Slam this year—and thus, the Australian Open.

Well, this is a new prediction for 2015, and I have not seen the other threads. Were they about "will Nole win a grand slam" or how it would affect his career? Considering that 2015 is not exactly 2011 and the top 4 not as great as it was back then, I think this question needs revisiting. Will a grand slam win this year be as impressive as 3 years ago? And where does it put Nole
Novak's biggest enemy is himself. He's certainly capable, but he hasn't even been able to get 2 slams in a season since 2011, despite being the best player.

2011 was his best chance. A grand slam in 2015 still very impressive but lost its luster since the top 4 is pretty much not the same. It's more like top 1.5
There is no way around it: Djokovic is consistent but he also chokes consistently when it counts the most. We can always expect to see best of Djokovic at China open.
I'm a Nole fan, but it will not happen. But if he would win the calendar year grand slam he would enter GOAT conversation for sure.
That ship sailed in 2011 but if he did it then it would vault him into the GOAT discussion. I still wouldn't call him the GOAT cause he's lacking in certain aspects like net game, transition game, dreadful overheads for a #1. Nah can't see him as the GOAT.
he WON'T
I think if Djokovic were to win the RG that would definitely boost his position in the GOAT discussion. It solidifies him along with top players from his era (Federer, Nadal) and shows that he can do it on every surface. Still though Djokovic is simply not great enough to be the GOAT. I think the reason why he is dominating tennis atm is because of the fact there is nobody to challenge him for world no.1. The only argument for Djokovic being the GOAT is his 2011 season. Even that isn't more great than Federer's 2004-2007 period.
This thread is made every year around this time :spit:

I would put him below:

Laver
Tilden
Federer
Nadal

...and somewhere around:

Pancho
Rosewall
Sampras
Budge

That is above Borg but below Nadal.

Djokovic has had Olderer and injured 6 months a year Nadal for quite a while now and he has been winning 1 slam/year losing to Murray, Nishikori, Wawrinka etc so let's keep things in perspective. He has ONE multi slam year in his whole career. No chance he is repeating that, forget Calendar Year Grand Slam. Only person who can realistically win CYGS if he plays the whole year is Rafa..and even he has Wimbledon issues. Djokovic is a good player but he is confined to tier 2 and virtually nothing he does from here on will catapult him into GOAT tier. Nothing to be ashamed of of course..not everyone is Laver, Nadal, Federer.

Nothing is greater than Fraud's 2004-2007 period, where he faced off against Baby Nadal, and various other injury prone, lazy headcases. Meanwhile Djoker faced off against peak Nadal and Murray in 2011 and lived to tell the tale.

Pity he got schooled by Olderer though..almost 2/3 times :haha:

Peak Murray?   0 slam winner peak Murray who Faker lost 2 slam finals to later? Ok. :superlol: :spit:
It will never happen, he has choked too many times over the last 3 years in slams. Hopefully he can win RG just once in his career.
he's already a legend and one of the greatest hc players of all time. the cygs isn't in the cards, but the career gs is inevitable as nadal continues his steady decline.

i think history will be kind to djoker, and the scary part is he's got another 5-6 yrs of gs contention as long as he stays healthy and motivated.
Yes, would enter GOAT debate. But his chance was in 2011. After that he didnt win more than one slam a year anymore unfortunately.
If he won it this year that would obviously propel him into the GOAT argument, especially since his career is far from over. But it's clearly not going to happen. I don't think most people even realize how small the chances are.

Just out of curiosity, I calculated Djokovic's % chance of winning all 4 slams this year, based on his current odds of winning each one (I used bwin for this example, but it wouldn't be much different with any other site).

The result is a 2.7% chance of winning all 4 slams. That's just an approximation and doesn't take into account a lot of variables, but still gives you a rough idea of just how hard this is to do. (For all the mathematicians out there, I assumed that winning each slam is an independent event, which may not actually be the case in reality)
