Last year was taxing on him and he seemed a bit fragile even this clay season. He’ll clearly play Wimbledon and if he goes deep he might be running on fumes. Should he play Canada and Cinci both?

Probably playing Canada again since he’s the defending champion and the court suits him much better than Cincinnati. Also it’s pretty likely that both federer and djokovic skip it if they make a deep run in Wimbledon therefore the chances to win Canada again are much higher

At this stage of his career, he should play no more than 65 matches per year.

So prioritize clay and grass, and make the hard court number fits.

It seems like any more every time he is on a hard court he ends up hurt yet again!

Hard to say. If Nadal were to limit himself to just USO and WTF, with one lead-up for each at most, he ought to be fine. But really, currently it feels like a coin-toss whether or not he makes it through a HC tournament without injury. The odds worsen the tougher his opponents play him.

The rest of his year should be Wimbledon, Canada, USO, Bercy, WTF.

But, as usual, I'm sure his real schedule will be Wimbledon, Canada, Cincy, USO, Beijing, Shanghai, Basel, Bercy, WTF.

He should skip Canada and just go straight to USO. Don't even practise on hard courts, just practise on clay until 2 weeks before the tournament.

He used to skip a lot in the USO-WTF period (by withdrawing or losing earlier therein) on the every even year since 2012.

In 2012 and 2014 it was a complete USO-WTF w/o, in 2018 Cinci-WTF period except USO.

No way he plays Cinci. Unless he looses in R2.
He needs Canada to protect his points and get some rust off before USopen.
Skip Asia swing, use married excuse or soft injury, just hope he is not really injured.
Basel warm up and Bercy and WTF

Wouldn't that b the case for like every player? It's always the injury, yada yada yada when it comes to GS losses yet he's healthy enough for 12 FO's & makes it up to SF or F at WB/USO/AO. Never any credit to the opponent. Even Novak w/ his 'supposed' big ego acknowledges his opponent or that he was outplayed after a loss. Sure seems like of the big 3, in his own demure way the Mallorcan might possess the biggest ego.

Probably play Montreal, USO, Shanghai, Paris and the WTF but I don't think he needs much more than that.

He doesn't have anything to prove and he won't catch Djokovic for #1, so no point in destroying his knees on hard courts.

Hopefully he will measure out his schedule more than ever. Enough with all the retirements and withdrawals. I'd rather see him playing fewer tournaments to protect the knee.

Seems to be injured anytime he even looks at a hard court

Canada OR Cincy then USO then we see but not looking past Wimbledon
