At the same time, Roddick doesn't have much to defend during the European clay circuit. If Richard wants to make his move, he needs good runs at Indian Wells or Miami.

Gasquet seems to be in better form than last year, but he needs to be more consistant to be close to the top. I hope he can reach #4-5 by the end of the year.

Andy will lose all of his points from Memphis since he took that off his calendar to go to Dubai instead. He can pick up points in San Jose if he makes the final. He has a lot to defend before clay season even starts, so it will be interesting.

I agree that Roddick doesn't have a lot to defend during the European clay circuit, but he won't gain any new ground there. He doesn't really care about the Masters tournaments before FO and he never does well at the FO.

If Richard doesn't make his move by the end of the grass "season," then I say he won't overtake Roddick this year.

Don't forget that Roddick has himself a lot of points to defend from Wimbledon(he made a 1/4 final there so only one round behind Gasquet)to US Open whereas Gasquet has almost nothing to defend in the US summer tournaments.

I don't disagree with any of that. Between the two, though, I think Roddick will do better this summer.

Maybe Gasquet has nothing to defend at the U.S. summer tournaments because he just doesn't do well there. There are a lot of dangerous players during July and August, and I think Roddick stands a better chance of advancing farther in those tournaments. Mind you, I would rather see Gasquet out-perform Roddick.

Yes, but this has been the same over the last 5-6 years. He doesn't has to defend any points just because he always plays horrible tennis on clay, year after year, and I don't think 2008 will be different.

i'd like to know why he cares who is 6 and who is 7. Not a big difference.
Well i agree with you there.
I was just asking the person who was saying that Gasquet is playing better than last year.
Well,in 2006,he didn't do bad(a MS final and a 1/8 final at US Open) but in 2007,he retired from the US Open(where usually he at least makes the 1/8 final) in second round because of an "injury".....so expect him to gain a lot of pts at the US Open

It could be before clay court season. Roddick defend 600 points while Richard only 160 + difference 360, so it's enough to do well as Andy before clay season.

Anyway I don't see it's important to be 6th or 7th, it's more are u in top 4 or in 4.-8.
