Home favourite in the bet365 odds, Leyton Hewitt, goes into the Australian Open next week on the back of a victory in the Brisbane International at the weekend.

The former world number one was able to beat heavy favourite Roger Federer in the final 6-1 4-6 6-3. That was his first title since 2010 as he begins the new season in good form.

Hewitt was able to break Federer on three occasions in the opening set as he went into a 1-0 led.

The 17-time Grand Slam winner hit back to level the match at 1-1 when he was able to secure the second set 6-4.

In the final set, Hewitt saved seven break points as he proved hard to overcome. He secured the title by sealing the last set 6-3.

The best Hewitt has done in his home Slam so far is finish runner-up which occurred in 2005 when beaten by Marat Safin in the final.

This year’s tournament begins on January 13 and will run all the way through to January 26. Novak Djokovic is the defending champion and the favourite with bet365 at Evens.

This is the Serbians most successful GS as he has prevailed at Melbourne Park on four occasions, three of which have come in the last three years.

Rafael Nadal also warmed up with a win at the weekend as he secured the Qatar Open. The Spaniard defeated Gael Monfils in the final 6-1 6-7 (5-7) 6-2.

The 2009 winner was forced to miss the Australian Open last year through injury but still managed to win two Grand Slam titles in 2013 following his recovery. He is 9/4 with bet365 to make it GS number 14 this month.
