He is doomed. This year he is trying to play on clay like he plays on hard court, so far with good success, but against Rafa Nadal it's very difficult to hit half volleys from the baseline due to the bounce on this surface. That's why he has very little chance to win.

Mostly great points.
Couldn't agree more with the importance of 70% first serves and winning set 1.
More than AO 17 game, Federer needs AO 17 mindset.

He needs rain interruptions - Rafa is a "rhythm" player and he can start slow a lot of times so interruptions can break his flow. Unfortunately I don't think he can beat him in a sustained 3+ hour match at FO, even though he should've (back in his prime) as I always believed he had the game to do it.

If the first set is lost, he has 0% chance. If he wins the first set, maybe 20%.
