BRITISH No.1 Tim Henman will play in the Australian Open and the Davis Cup tie in Australia only if he is fully fit.

Henman, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, said on his website there would be no repeat of his September heroics, when he played through the pain barrier to beat Thailand virtually single-handedly in the previous Davis Cup round.
"I continued to play, even though I was nowhere near fully fit and I'm not interested in doing that again," he said.

"There's no doubt the Australian Open and the Davis Cup tie against Australia are really important, but I'm not going to compete unless I'm fully fit."

Britain's No.2, Greg Rusedski, is also struggling to be fit for the January 7-9 tie after foot surgery.
