Just wondering? Can anyone still pass him?

I think think that he may have done so. If not, he just needs to play a few more rounds of a tournament and then secure it.
Even if he hasn't its not like anyone is going to challenge him.
Yes, if he doesn't play the rest of the year, and Nadal wins the next two masters and the cup, he still wins the champions race by 7 points, securing the year-end #1. Nadal has his optionals full, so he can't gain points that way.
I think that the only scenario where he can be passed is if he doesn't win another match this year, and Nadal wins Vienna, Basel, Madrid and Paris, and is undefeated in the Masters Cup.

(Vienna and Basel have higher points available than 2 of his optional tournament wins).
i think it's still close. i haven't done the math, but there are still 4-5 major tourneys before year's end. but considering roger always goes deep in every tournament, he's bound to secure the top spot already.
Domino's post is correct I think, although the commentators were saying it is already tied up for Roge to end year #1
but nadal won't go for too long on hard court..not saying that he sucks on it but he has to practice more
Nadal has extremely theoretical chance in that Federer doesn't win a match and Nadal wins one big optional event, both remaining MS tournaments and YEC without dropping a match.

I consider odds for that happening somewhat unlikely.
Yep, no doubt about that :)

Yep.. 1,000,000-1 chance of Nadal finishing NO1...
Roger even still has 1 optionel left this year, so he can tie up the No1 for sure by winning a couple of matches in Bangkok or Basel..

wow i thought i read somewhere earlier this year he was gonna play...
oh well
his remaining schedule is something like
Davis cup
Madrid TMS
Basel
Paris TMS
Shanghai TMC

madrid, basel, and paris are all 3 weeks in a row, he'll probably WD from one of them :(

yes he is(but he will prob pull out, hopefuly anyway), nadal is no1 seed at the china open starting tomorrow(today) depending on where you live.
I think it's safe to say that Federer has secured his #1 position for the end of the year. I don't know if he'll play Bangkok, but even if he doesn't, I still see him withdrawing from either Madrid, Basel or Paris. But as he's likely to go deep in those tournaments, he'll be #1 anyway.
