One of the keys to Ferrer's victory against Nadal was he directed 80% balls to Rafa's backhand. He has obviously tried this before but didn't succeed. Rafa was not at his best but gotta give credit to Ferrer for implementing his gameplan.

He hit deep forehand CC to Nadal's backhand pinning him there. Nadal then went down the line with his backhand to break the pattern but Ferrer used his BH DTL deep to Rafa's backhand and totally avoided hitting the BH CC which is a much stronger shot for him naturally. Once Rafa gets into his usual CC forehand to BH pattern on clay its curtains for Ferrer(and for anyone other than Djokovic) so he did a good job of avoiding it.

So has Ferrer's DTL BH improved? :wavey:

No, not really. He was more willing than usual to use it, but one could feel he was still unconfortable with it.
