Very high quality match up until 7-6 1-3* 40-0, after which Ferrer completely went away. Mayer choked while serving for the match at 5-4 and hit a double fault at 4-2 in the tiebreak, but Ferrer immediately hit a ridiculous choke shot himself after that
All in all a deserved winner, Mayer played exceptional tennis throughout :worship:
Well done Mayer, i thought Ferrer will win this, but Mayer didn ´t lost set in this tournament until F and it was only tie-break today, so deserved title, but his level is really great, he already was great at Wimbledon making R16 and people laughing he has no business to be in R16 and now out of nowhere 1st ATP world tour level tournament is 500 level Hamburg
No choke from Ferrer at all. Mayer was better the whole match except in the 1st set tb where Ferrer gave everything he had. Mayer's game is more effortless and the serve gave him an edge here. Completely deserved win for Mayer.
Look at Ferrer's losses this year. He's had chances to win almost every single one of them. He's lost virtually every close match he's played.
In matches I'd consider "could have gone either way" he's 2-7 (wins versus F. Mayer and Ramos) :help:
Tomorrow will be 27th in the rankings, 19th in the race.
Obvious comparison with Golubev, who won here then forgot how to play tennis for two years. Happens all too often with players who make the sudden leap up like he has - they're suddenly playing all the masters and 500s, and losing early because the fields are so strong.
Was it Borg? I am sure Borg is till now the only player who could play any style of tennis, and play along any side of the court(inside the baseline, outside, at the net etc).
It's not the big 3 members, as Nadal is too topspin and grinding from the baseline oriented, his net game while has...
With all of the free time, I have created some tennis trivia questions. I think they are fairly difficult, although I may be proven wrong by some of the trivia experts on MTF. If you answer the question correctly, you can pick the next topic.
Note: Only main draw ATP matches (including Grand...
I'm vehemently opposed to holding the Open at all, have e-mailed the USTA letting them know this on more than one occasion and now this. A terrible idea.
Had a little, friendly, exchange with few fans here on this topic - and I think it deserves a separate thread.
I'm sick and tired of watching the recordings.
I want to see some LIVE tennis.
I live on the other coast, but I'll be there at the USO, in person, days before it starts. Just to...
