I admire her for raising her children with all it's complexities and challenges. Here's a pic of her w/Guga @ his Brasil Open bday party:

Hehehe, that was on the Brasil Open's website and I almost posted it here myself.

Guga's mom must be an amazing person, you can tell that just from the way he turned out. :) But seriously--isn't one of his brothers severely disabled? That takes an even more special kind of person.

Guga's brother doesn't look like he has down syndrome. I don't that's what he has but I could be wrong. Should consult Fernie on this one.

What tournament was that, where Guga's mom was in the stands and she couldn't stay still- she kept on moving around, standing up, and she eventually had to sit on the ground because she was so nervous! It was funny cos she had her hands to her face and she'd peek out and see if he won a point or she'd wince when he lost a point... adorable! My mom and I watched that together and my mom just got a kick out of it cos that's exactly the way my mom is when I'm playing tennis! There's just something adorable about a mother and her child being so close together, and not very many parents show their emotions like her these days and it's SO endearing!
Oh, I think it was the US Open in 2001- someone know for sure? I don't remember that far back but he lost the tournament, although he won when his mom was there

I might be wrong about this... I thought I heard it during one of his matches, and we know that commentators are always well informed. ;) I've never seen a photo, but I just did a little research, and I could only find that he is handicapped or disabled.

Yes, I remember this, too!!! She was so nervous and excited and looked like such a sweet lady! US Open 2001 sounds right, but I can't really remember

Well, I really don't know. LOL! I am a self-proclaimed bad Guga fan... I just think his brother doesn't look like he has down syndrome. But I've only seen a few pictures, so...

The one that doesn't have DS was recently at a match of his (I don't recall which one). He's lanky like Guga, but older and wears rimmed glasses.

Rafael is the bigger brother, the one who quit playing tennis when his dad died, so then he would help the family while Guga kept on playing.
Guillerme is the younger brother, and he is indeed handicapped. Guga has enormous affection for him. He is the official keeper of all Guga´s trophies. :D
Rafael can be seen many times watching Gugas matches, along with Larri and Diana Gabanyi. Alice goes to some matches, and indeed she gets too nervous.
I remember I heard her shout sometime ago during one of his matches. It was funny, coz the camera was on her on that exact moment.
Also, his grandmother Olga goes to some of his matches, especially when they are in Germany. She is his official translator to german. :p

You know, I didn't think it was possible to adore Guga any more than I already do. But this just makes my heart melt :)

I think guga's mom is so adorable. The first time I saw her on TV was at the 2000 Tennis masters series championship in Lisboa. She definetely was nervous, but she was a vocal cheerleader.

It is a little sad that Guga has endured some tragedies in his life. First, the loss of his father and his handicapped brother. but, I think through all his tragedies, he must have gained courage and strength.

Guga's mom, Alice, is the coolest! I remember even last year she was there on court with a cake for him. She should be everyones mom :)

Roddicktennisbabe, I think the match your thinking of is the one at last years USO when he played Mirnyi. They kept showing her moving around and covering her eyes at times cause it was just too nervewracking to watch and it was! lol I was doing the same thing. And shes always cheering him on. She must be where Guga gets his energy from. :)

Lily, that's the match I thought it was too. That was the best match of USO '01. It was a nighttime match. Max and Guga were playing out of this world! Guga's mom was very animated. Guga and Max were great competitors and great sportsmen.
