Ok, the topic title maybe a little misleading, but I didnt know how to put that...
What I mean is to aim at a discussion where each one of us could point out which was the best Guga performance untill now. I´m not talking about one memorable match, or even play, but about tournaments. So...
What was the most impressive tournament run of Guga´s carreer in your opinion?
I would name TWO moments...
Cincinnati 2001 and Lisboa 2000.
Now why wouldnt I pick ANY of the Roland Garros titles? Because the faster courts are his main target now. He already proved to everyone that he masters the clay. So, thats why.
During Lisboa, Guga was facing the biggest challenge of his life. For the first time he was a serious contendor at the year end champs, and he got injured in the first match, losing to Agassi. And it was played indoors. And on carpet... And he had to beat Agassi, Sampras, Kafelnikov and Norman to get it. He played so well, and he was so happy.
But If I had to pick one and only one, it would definitely be Cincinnati last year. When that tournament finished, I was SURE he would win the USOpen. And Im almost sure he would wasnt for that injury. He was so sharp, all the shots were working almost at perfection level, and he was so aggressive. I remember that in the finals, vs Rafter who was also having a wonderful run at the hard courts, Guga managed to make the aussie run all the time, and gave he NO chance. He was proving with that title, and all the adversities of it (rain delays, two matches in a day and one in the next...) that he was LOADS MORE than a claycourter. It was the ultimate prove of the wondeful and complete athlete he is.
Now, Im waiting for the others´ opinions.
