Dimitrov, who was the No. 3 seed, was diagnosed with flu and sinus infection.

"We will miss having Grigor as a part of this year's tournament, but his health is priority number one," said Jeff Newman, tournament director. "We hope he gets better quickly and wish him great success for the rest of the year."

Monfils withdraws for the second straight week because of a knee injury.

The Citi Open is the second tournament in the U.S. Open series which offers a $1 million bonus at the U.S. Open for the player at the top of the standings.

Of course, after he saw that the draw wasn't gonna be a piece of cake like it's been the last six months and that the great big Bernie was waiting in the second round to destroy him, he withdrew. Typical for the piece of shiit that Dimugtrov is.

Milko you should go see a specialist. My guess is it's something with the brain.

Hum, that's sad, cause now we will have to wait one more week to finally see him play his first match as a top 10 player.

Hopefully this is not very serious, although I'm not sure if he's really ill. I got the impression he never wanted to play this tournament anyway, after this Wimbledon semifinal and the confirmation he'll be a top 8 seed for Toronto and Cincy.

Ow, yeah, and for the Tomic fan base or/and Dimitrov hate base: I don't know what you guys are smoking. Grigor defeated Bernard quite easily last year in Rotterdam and they were ranked pretty close at that time. Now with today's scenario: the bulgarian being a top 10 and the australian struggling to win an challenger level ATP 250 just to enter the TOP 100 again? Sorry, but those guys are in a complete different level of play right now. This (possible) match looked absolutely NID as a routine 2 set win for the seeded guy to me. Hopefully they met in Toronto or Cincy (if Tomic passes the qualify or gets a WC) for guys like Milko, Somby Lolo e BrittTennisFan come back to earth a little bit. :smoke:

Quite easily? Pretty sure it went to three sets. But if that's your criteria for defeating somebody quite easily, then fair enough.

IIRC, it was one of the most disappointing matches last year in terms of quality, anyway.

ROFL, Bernie is 100 times the player Dimugtrov will ever be, the only advantage of the mug is his pathetic serve, which he copied from Federer. Tomic is much more intelligent, versatile, talented and bangs hotter bishes. Ranking doesn't matter too much to me.

Total routine. NID match.

Dimitrov broke himself in the 2nd set, after he wasted 2 or 3 BP's in the previous game with epic muggery (including a weak 2nd serve return with the forehand into the stands).

1st and 3rd sets were completely routine, I believe Tomic didn't had a single break point.

Dimitrov is 100 times the player Tomic is, the current advantages of Dimitrov are serve, forehand, backhand, return, movement, net play, fitness, focus and everything else. Tomic is much less intelligent, versatile, talented. However he bangs hotter bishes (that's true actually, Sharapova looks like 40 yo). Ranking says exactly the difference between those players atm.
Fixed for you...

Doktor C, I'm quite disappointed with you. With your experience, you should know better than argue with a blatant troll (and quite a stupid one as well).

Otherwise, I agree with you that this may be a deliberate move on Grigor's side. May turn out to be a good one too... Winning this tournament would not have affected his ranking (although would obviously have increased his race points) so the main benefit of playing there would have been as a preparation for the two Masters. However if he wants to focus on the big tourneys, it may be a good idea to skip this one and keep preparing off court and saving energy/staying fresh. Time will tell...
