Instead of congratulating Ernests Gulbis for making the semis in the match thread, I'm making a new thread that is relavant because he won Nice.

Stefan Edberg and Patrick Rafter won the US Open after winning the event before

No man has won the event before Wimbledon and Wimbledon itself

Pete Sampras was the only player to win the event before Australia and Australia itself in 1994 (assuming Sydney and AO was back to back weeks)

Bjorn Borg won Nice and the FO in 1980 (Assuming Nice and the French Open was back to back weeks in 1980)

Ernests Gulbis will try to be the 5th player to pull off this feat, but he's up against Novaak trying to finally get his career slam and fatigue because lets face it, 3 straight weeks to win 2 events with one of them a slam takes so much out of you.

But he saved energies against berdych, plus you have days off in the slams to rest.

When are the SF being played? both on friday? or one in thursday and the other on friday?

Murray won Queens then Wimbledon last year.

There was a week in between them though but that's the grass court schedule, there's no tournament worth playing except Queens/Halle.

Isn't that the case before every slam, hence why it's a rarity

Yeah man, that's the point of this- that's why it's so rare. Those who play the week before tend not to be in contention for winning the GS after it, plus the winner would be pretty hard pressed to win seven 5 set matches straight after a tournament win.

Let's see the tournaments before Wimbly. There's Hertogenbosch which has Ferrer and Verdasco as the top two seeds. And Eastbourne with Gasquet and Dolgopolov... Best chance of this happening would lie with Ferrer then. Pretty darn unlikely.

Isner enjoys attempting this feat, usually.
