Any particular reason he can't?

I mean, I'm expecting him to lose early because his form has been so up and down, Kooyong didn't exactly reassure, and the record of first time finalists backing it up next year in Australia is not the best.

What bugs him about the new surface though - the lower bounce?

Well he didn't have any leadup form to speak of last year either and remember how he struggled to get past JMDP at the AO.

Streaky type of player more than capable of replicating that form if he gets some momentum in the early rounds.

his draw is good

Economidis should be no big problem, but Guccione can
his 3rd round match against Almagro, Cilic or Melzer should neither be a concern if he has form

then he would face Ljubicic or Blake, who didn't play very convincingly recently

I think he can go pretty deep, though of course not as far as last year; the only real obstacle I see in early rounds could be Guccione

This thread sucks because:
[_] Assumes cheating by X Player without any decent proof.
[_] Talks about "List of Levels" of players.
[_] Considers every regular french or british youngster with chances to make a GS final.
[_] Nalbandian at his best vs. Federer at his best
[_] Some uses of the time machine that would make Marty McFly feel embarrased (Borg vs. Muster vs. Kuerten vs. Nadal, Becker vs. Sampras vs. Federer, Robredo vs. Rios, etc.)
[X] It was started by nolop.
[_] Talks about Hewitt's chances at any Slam.
