It`s actually a sad moment as just few weeks ago we were talking about 4 players
Staying inside top 40.
So, the book remains on Marin Cilic shoulder`s as Dodig is also not in his teens.
Having quite excellent tradition with recent players like Ivanisevic and Ancic
All the way back to Franulovic and Pilic.
So the question is who is a next young Croatian star ?
Considering there is a solid age gap for a few new guns and their real chance of emerging
I would rather put my money on somebody like Mesaros to surface.
Yes, I know people are seeing Coric or Pavic to do so, but to my mind comes Mesaros who
might follow Dodig pathway.
Why anybody except us Croatian should care about this?

Ljubo will be missed. Ivo is still a very special character. I really like Dodig but I'm afraid he not good enough. as much as really love Ancic and Ivanisevic they were big underachievers. sure Goran won W but he should have been a multiple GS winner. poor Ancic struggled so much with injuries (I really love his game and his personality). I had some great expectation for Cilic, but he hasn't been able to deliver either. I still think you should be happy that Croatia has produced so many fantastic players.

and yeah, we do care about Croatian players .

More proper thread name would be Croatian tennis disappearing . Don't see anyone at Ivanisevic, Ljubicic or even Ancic, Karlovic and Cilic level coming soon . This hype about this Coric guy is huge overrating. There was few Coric likes guys in recent years and nobody didn't do anything decent

I still think Cilic will do some big things. He won't win a slam but IMO coming back in the top10 and reaching maybe a few more GS SFs is definitely possible.
And Coric isn't overrated. He's born in late '96 and already has an ATP ranking. Just wait and see. I don't want to hype him though because people start hating.

No he isn't.

As for Croatia for such a small country they should be proud of what they have done in tennis, it's not always guaranteed they're going to have a huge crop of players in the top 100 relative to size. It's cyclical.

Coric is just 15 years old, how can you already say that he's overrated ?

Serbia has relatively more good youngsters.

I tink Marin benefits from the fact that he's young enough that if he can stay healthy he should be able to capitalize and win a slam once nadal and federer leave and djokovic's style begins to inevitably wear him down. There are no youngsters coming up who i can see dominationg like those 3 so in about the next 5 years is golden time for marin to win one

Mate pavic won the junior wimbledon doubles title last year and made the final of the zagreb indoors doubles competition pairing with dodig.Even though he's young it looks at this point like he might find most of his success in doubles but i dont see anything wrong with that. Singles wise i think he could reach top 50 at

Ljubo told him to get someone like Sosa for fitness (that0s when Ljubo was 3rd..)...but Boy Cilic won't listen...he prefers Gorans advice...which are not too bright I can imagine...
So fire Bob, ditch the brother...spend some money for god sake..on a proper team..and than we can talk top 10...

thanks for the info. if I'm getting this right, Pavic is more of a double player. as you said absolutely nothing wrong with that. It seems to me that there are so many talented players from former Yugoslavia. I hope people don't get offended by what I said. Serbs, Croats, same thing to me...

Nope, that was against Tipsarevic in Miami last year. He lost 3-6 6-7.

I've never been a fan of breaking the rackets. Throw one in the stands if you don't feel like using it anymore, and heal your frustrations elsewhere.
But yes, he should be showing more emotions. Apparently he did gain some muscle during the time he didn't play.
