Gavin deserves his own thread as he heads to his first challenger semi final this afternoon.

If you know more about him add below and I will update the profile.

Born 23/11/1992, Queensland

Right handed.

Watched him play via the stream, it was the first time I've seen him other than glancing by passing his court by to watch someone else (Sorry Gavin)

Conditions were trying, a heavy cross court win came up during this match an Di Wu is a pretty good challenger player in his home country. Gavin served well, hitting lines and looked as if he was generating a decent amount of speed, set up a lot of short balls for him to put away,

During rally's he really focused on depth and hit the ball a lot cleaner then Wu who tried to take too many of these depth rally shots on and hit winners usually resulting errors in short points.

As the conditions were windy Van Peperzeel played the smarter game and was rewarded for it. As such it wasn't obvious to see any real weapons as such but when he did pull the trigger, from inside the baseline the forehand was the shot of choice and seemed to try to drift across to use it more during rally's,

This afternoon the semi is against Zemlja, Good luck.

Gavin gets up against Grega Zemlja (ATP533 but has been ranked in the top 50, high of 43 in Jul 2013), who knocked off Duckie in the previous round, coming from a set down to win in style 67(3) 62 62. Good win for Gavin who will contest his first Challenger final. Go Gavin

This is actually huge lol he is really just a futures player getting to QF SF but making a challenger final is quite an over achievement at this stage of his career so this will give him enough points to really go into higher tournaments for the next 12 months!

and i wish him all the best and sucsess!!!!!!

Gavin lost the final in straight sets. He will still get a nice ranking boost. Up 117 spots up to number 341. The money will help him with traveling and the ranking will get him into a lot more tournaments.

Great result this week rankings wise in breaking into the top 300, at 295. Has some points dropping out this week, but still live in a future in Germany, so may at least defend them.

Has been some collecting some good results this year, 34-15 in futures and 4-2 in challengers.

Hopefully will continue to move up.

It helps that all four of those challenger level wins were at the same event. It would be nice to see him enter a few more challengers now that his ranking is getting higher.

Yes impressive to make a final on only his third attempt at playing at challenger level this year (and breaking the barrier to top 300 with second futures win).

Hopefully we'll now start to see him more often at challenger level now to continue his rise.

Well, Gavin is going to have to go up a level at some point - he has 55 points to defend from An-Ning Challenger next year, and while the points from his European futures are handy, they won't be enough to save him if he can't do anything in Challengers before then.

There's more than a few weak draws at Challenger level he could make, even on his preferred clay, so planning as the European summer season winds up will be important for him.

What a week for Gavin at what I guess is the closest thing to a home event for him, the 15K Futures in Brisbane!

Of the five matches, he was really on the rack in three of them, including the final against Luke Saville - but found a way to win all of them, putting him now on 176 points as the 11th highest ranked Aussie.

Hopefully further good results in the Challengers over the next fortnight can put him in a position where he can shuffle between Challengers and Futures during the early part of next year; at least until his An-Ning final points come off in early May.

In the main draw of the Toyota Challenger Gavin draw a Wild Card, bit of a veteran 26 year-old Sho Katayama from Japan (ATP 926), but can't hack it on the slick, fast indoor courts and goes down in straight sets 46 26.
A pity coz you don't often get favourable draws.
