Both Wawrinka and Nadal had won the previous grand slam tournament before crashing out in the first round of the next grand slam...
But which was the bigger shock?
Wawrinka who won a clay masters in Monte Carlo this year, or Nadal who struggled in Wimbledon 2012 and had to adapt from clay to grass without playing a competitive match in between.

not even close. Garcia-Lopez is a dangerous player and Wawrinka is not nearly as established as Nadal. This isn't even comparable.

Rafa was clearly outplayed by Darcis. Stan did not give a shit about the match.

Darcis one. Everyone knew Mugrinka was capable of shit like this at any given moment so it's not a surprise. One Slam won by default should not change our minds about his entire career, littered with moments like this.

GGL-Stan was shock? It's surprise, not shock.

Darcis/Nadal, obviously. Nobody expected Rafa to bomb out then.

Stop overrating Wawrinka.

Nadal losing in the first round of a slam always has and always will be a far bigger shock than Wawrinka losing at that stage. Nadal is a 13 time slam champ while Wawrinka has just fluked his first slam at 29. They are NOT comparable.

That's before we even get in to the fact that Garcia-Lopez is a far better player than Darcis.

Considering Darcis was outside of Top100, and especially he was a OHBH player. :spit: A great demonstration of what talent is.

Then how do you think defending champion Frauderer was outclassed by a guy ranking out of top 100?
Can we doubt his talent on grass?

Nadal definitely. Wawrinka is always inconsistent and Garcia-Lopez was picked out as one of the most dangerous floaters from the start
^This. Absolutely no doubt. Wawrinka had possibly the toughest first-round draw of any of the top 16. Compare that with e.g. Ginepri. Or even Sousa, Lacko et al.

Darcis was clearly the bigger shock.

Wawrinka has been inconsistent all year, has won one slam and was up against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez who's an established player and a Spaniard who's good on clay.

Nadal came into Wimbledon 2013 having won nearly everything in the clay swing, a dozen slams under his belt, two of which came at Wimbledon, up against Steve Darcis who nobody had ever really heard of and was ranked outside the top 100.
