The guys who do battle down in the lower levels deserve recognition as well. This thread is for recognizing the future champs of the week each week.

April 13-20 champs:

China F5, Chengdu: Ze Zhang,

Currently ranked 206 in the world Zhang took the title in Chengdu this week as the #2 seed. He did not drop a set en route to the final where he rallied from a set deficit to knock off Zhyrmont in the final.

Colombia F1, Pereira: Arthur De Greef

De Greef took the title in Colombia as the #2 seed. He overcame dropping the first set in the tournament 6-7 to go on and roll through the next 6 sets 6-2 6-2 6-1 6-1 6-2 and 6-2 to get to the semis where he had a tough battling win over Facundo Mena. He then pounded De Paula in the final 6-2 6-3. Good week for him and will help his current ranking of 358.

Brazil F2, Itajai: Caio Zampieri

27 year old Zampieri had a stellar week, taking the title as the #7 seed in his home country. He lost 2 sets all week including one in the final to Martin Cuevas but was able to win the 3rd set 6-3, clinching the title for the world #584.

Egypt F14, Sharm El Skelkh: Germain Gigounoun

The #1 Gigounoun took the title as expected in Egypt this week, not losing a set until the final. The world #242 took out home country favorite Mazen Osama 7-5 6-1 in the quarters, side-stepping a potentially dangerous obstacle. In the final he overcame losing his first set of the tournament and rolled 6-1 6-2 in sets 2 and 3 to take home the title.

Greece F6, Herakllon: Tristan Lamisine

21 year old youngster Lamisine won the future in Greece this week after not dropping a set all the way to the final where he received a walk-over when Alexander Ward was unable to compete in the final. Lamaisne was the 7 seed here and world #505 currently. Finally gets a futures title this year after going 0-2 in future finals earlier this year.

Iran F5, Kish: Toni Androic

3rd time the charm for Androic, finally capturing a futures title in Iran after losing in two finals in the same country earlier this year. He also lost in the semis of another Iranian future. Androic was the #1 seed here in Kish and acted as such, not dropping a set on the way to the final. In the final he dropped the opening set but then cruised 6-1 6-1 in the final two sets to overcome his previous demons in finals.

Italy F10, Santa Margherita Di Pula: Matteo Donati

19 year old youngster Donati took a big title here in his home country. He was the #6 seed and is currently world #425. He only dropped one set on the week which was in the semis. In the final he took out fellow youngster Tatlot of France 6-4 7-6(7). This week was a good one for Donati as he had previously been scuffling in futures this year, never making it past the quarters.

Kazakhstan F6, Skymkent: Alexander Lobkov

Lobkov gets a title in what has been a pretty busy season for him. The 23 year old world #385 was the 1 seed but was made to work in the quarters and the semis, having to rally from a set behind in each round. He then cruised in the final 6-4 6-2 to capture the title in Kazakhstan

Qatar F3, Doha: Antal Van der Duim

3rd future title of the year for world #369. He was now won 15 of his last 16 matches. 13 of the in straight sets. he had to overcome tough customer Matija Pecotic (former college player at Princeton) in round 2 in 3 sets. In the final the #3 seed Van der Duim overcame a first set tiebreak loss to knock off Adrien Bossell to make it 3 future titles in his last 4 entered.

Turkey F12, Antalya: Hugo Nys
(with Alize Cornet)
The #6 seed Nys rolled all week having only one tough test which was in the 2nd round vs former college player at Auburn Andreas Mies. He beat Mies 3-6 7-6(2) 6-2 and from that tiebreak on it was nothing but smooth sailing for the 23 year old Frenchman.

Uzbekistan F1, Karshi: Roman Safiullin

The unranked wildcard took a shock title in Uzbekistan this week. Only 16 years of age and without an ATP profile page. The cinderella week almost didn't happen as he barely won the first round 7-6(5) in the 3rd set. In the 2nd round he took out #1 seed Molchanov with ease 6-3 6-4. He then routined his next two opponents before overcoming a set deficit in the final vs unseeded Ismailov to capture the title. Very impressive week for the 16 year old.

Great post OHG, thanks!

Since ii saw Gigougnon live in Sofia coupe years ago, became kind of a supporter, so it's great to see him vulturing the African Futures :D

One of the few guys in that age/group who is not only aboout ballbashing, but also about touch, brain, slices, etc.

p.s. this 16yo mixture oof Gulbis and Raonic will be scary in 2-3 years..

Nice post, thanks :yeah:

I guess it wouldn't be too much to do the same thing for the winners of challengers. Times to times there are threads for the results of the finals, but it depends of the players involved...

Uzbekistan F1's EL was very poor, but Safiullin looks promising, he's one of the top juniors.
Yeah the draw did really open up for the 16 year old. Still good of him to take the opportunity.

Antal :rocker: So much unfulfilled potential there.

De Greef has struggled to get his ranking back up after injury, but he is really too good for Futures.
