See, that's why I don't like wildcards. It's pure favouritism (based on passports thus commercialism) instead of actually looking for players who can make the draw more exciting. Don't mind promising young players to get some help, but Parmentier? Really?! She's 34. Best result was a 4th round six years ago. Last year a 1st round exit. Paquet (26) receiving her 4th wildcard in 4 years is ridiculous. The first time she reached the 2nd round with two 1st round exits thereafter. Yeah, let's invite her again!

Halys is almost 24 (Zverev is younger and gets trashed...) and has received a couple of wildcards before. Now would have been the ideal moment for FFT to tell him that if he wants to play the French he's got to improve his ranking (i.e. do better!) instead of relying on favours. Otherwise this guy will never have the motivation to get rid of his challenger level status. The brand new USO champion probably knows what I mean.

Pironkova and Murray are logical wildcards imo.

Completely agree with @Losange here.

Why not offer Nakashima one instead of Halys/Janvier and why offer one to Parmentier, Harmony Tan and Paquet? Its ridiculous. I don't know where the cut-off is, but if a player like Kostyuk would be out and three players like that receive a wildcard its just bad for the sport.

Contrary to other people, I quite like these low ranked French guys getting involved. They usually play way above there level here; I like to see the raw emotions.

That's even more ridiculous 🤦‍♂️

"Oh you guys get to organise a slam as well? Let's help each other by handing out wildcards to our players and ignore all players with other passports"

But a partnership exists between other GS ...

A few one, OK, but not some players that are clearly not even close to GS-level, some of them not even close to good Challenger players or with the potential to reach that.

God I hate it when tennis analytic freaks complain about wildcards. FFS it's fun, there's emotions, there's the potential for stories, it gives guys a chance.

In your sad world the ATP Tour would just be the same 32 guys in every tournament every week. No qualifying, no wildcards, just the same 32 players over and over, it'd be like the Nitto ATP Finals every week! YAY!

The same people that hate wildcards also hate the 2020 US Open Final. You guys must be a riot down the pub.

Although I've seen lots of wildcards failing big time and simply playing to get some fast money, I know what you mean.

But......should the FO (or any other slam) be used as a platform for this? That's a 'no' from me.

So what!? There's 128 players in a grand slam draw, let them have a crack at it. I bet you hate Marcus "Willbomb" Willis

And I hate people who don't make sense and can only take things out of context.

Kisses!

(PS look at my signature. I enjoyed the USO final!)

Willis qualified, beat a very good grass-court player as Berankis. He completely deserved that. He is not the example. Liam and Naomy Broady are.
