Ferrer defeats Djokovic 6-4 6-4

Wow, this should definitely spice up things in the Gold group. I wasn't expecting such a result:eek: This Ferrer is actually good on Indoor fast courts. Novak wasn't great on return and especially on break points including the one when Ferrer was serving for the match. His body language showed he wasn't that fired up until that last return game, might have been the nerves of playing his first TMC.

Well done Ferrer - he came out with the intensity and desire and did well to take it in straights. Djoko wasn't at his best but that's not David's problem.

After 1 round the group looks like

1. Ferrer
2. Nadal
3. Gasquet
4. Djokovic

Decent match. Djok was poor 1st set, far too many errors but did play well in the 2nd. Pics was very good throughout. Best player in the group easily today

congrats david

Nole is still suffering from post-USO crapness. Hopefully he can turn-it around but at this rate dosen't look likely!

Good win for Ferrer :)

It was a pretty good match. Ferrer was very consistent. Djokovic was making more errors than he could afford to given the opponent.

Looks like Ferrer has a decent chance to be into SFs..
Now win against Nadal.
Congrats Ferrer and Sorry to Djoko that I said before you'd tanked against Santoro...

I'm increasingly worry about Rafa's faith in this group!
Amaizing shots from both players with an edge for Ferrer.Such depths and flat shots! And the speed..waw!

When Djokovic started getting into form late 1st, I figured Ferrer was in trouble, but Nole kept cranking the errors, adding up to 41 in just two sets. Ferrer retrieved and returned exceptionally, as usual. Was there something wrong with Nole? He was obviously struggling to breathe, even lifting his arms over his head.

Anyway, so glad about this one after Ferrer was obviously bothered by Nole taking forever between points. Nole's added racket bouncing to the routine, at least during key points. Moments after Ferrer complained about it at 5-3 in the first, Djokovic racket-bounced the ball 7 times, then bounced it by hand 17-18 times, dropped it, caught it, and then re-bounced it another 4-5 times, Ferrer bouncing around all the while as he anticipated the serve. When is Nole going to learn to show some courtesy?

This round has Ferrer's name written on it : ) Very consistent and he can really hustle around the court-really good returner. (BTW, why is he tagged as 'pics'?)

Nole's shots were all over the place : ( And his dropshots were failing him. Good luck to him in his next match.

Great start for Ferrer, hope he can keep the dream alive and stir things up in that group.
