Spaniard Feliciano Lopez transitioned from camera-time on the Melbourne courts to camera-time on the set of "Los Serrano," making his acting debut Thursday in a cameo appearance on Spain's most popular family soap opera. The episode will be broadcast in the beginning of March.
"It was a really fun experience," said Lopez. "Everything is so different from what you see on TV. The actors put me at ease right away and we laughed a lot during the entire shooting session. I was a bit tense at the beginning but it went away really quickly. I'm hoping to get to do this again.
"It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I was amazed at how fast they shoot the different scenes and how much the actors improvise."
Writers of the humorous soap opera approached Lopez last week, and the Spaniard agreed to portray himself in a scene in which the character "Fiti" attempts to enlist the support of a celebrity for his local campaign.
The 26-year-old Lopez, who needed an early wake up call to go through make-up and wardrobe before the cameras began rolling at 9 a.m., added: "The good thing is that I didn't spend too much time in the make-up room. I just got back from the Australian Open where it is summer, and since I am still pretty tanned, not much make-up was needed."
"Los Serrano," currently in its seventh season, draws more than five million viewers during its prime time slot every Wednesday night on Spain's natoinal TV station (Tele5), ranking it among the top three public television shows in terms of viewership. The soap opera is also broadcast in France and Portugal.
