That smash did him good.
After his terrible American spring HC seasons he finally won RG that year followed by record 15th slam at Wimbledon.

It's not like he needed to beat the defending Channel Slam champion and the new AO champion that year (who also won the Channel slam the next year), so he basically evaded the peak Nadal and lucked out those slams.

Call me crazy but Fed would be a mentally stronger player (and would win way more matches against lesser opponents like Pushak) had he done this more often.
He retracts a lot his emotions in a way to keep in hide his Kyrgios on the making younger self, but by doing so he also isn't channeling his emotions to drive him to play better.
In that department Djokovic is a lot better. By breaking rackets and screaming at ball kids he is able to turn matches around.
