Good news for a change:
According to German page tennisnet.com Federer is playing both Madrid and Rome in 2020 which weren’t in his earlier schedule.

personally I’d prefer monte Carlo over Madrid but I guess it’s simply too close to miami so it’s probably fine

His entrance into those tournaments should delight his fans, but he will not win either of them. That's for sure. You gotta face the reality that he is more vulnerble on clay than the likes of Fogini and Ferero.

Ferrero retired in 2012... why would you take him as an example? Federer last year only lost to the 2 current best clay courters. He could do damage there. But the info seems to be false anyway so it’s probably obsolete to discuss

Fed should only play RG or maybe even skip clay completely. He has no chance to win anything and at this age physical fatigue may catch up with him during the grass season which is key for him.

The article in OP was deleted and there's a new fixed version, saying that Federer will only play RG: Roger Federer: Auf Sand offenbar doch nur in Paris

I guess the rumour started on the following site, without any sources being cited: Updated Roger Federer schedule for 2020

Then more reputable sites like Eurosport simply cited that article without ever doubting it, and of course it then spreads very quickly on social media where nobody actually reads any sources, quite poor journalism all around...

Train on clay is good for fed baseline game but only playing RG saves his body and gives him a large block of prep.

The whole purpose would be to stay fresh, have baseline game solid, have a large block of chill and prep time to work on things but ultimately peak for grass. Stutt and halle not a bad idea if he only plays RG so he can get some match play in.

I'd have thought that one masters and RG would have been more than enough on clay, especially if he manages to go relatively deep at both Indian Wells and Miami. There's certainly no need to wear himself down by the time grass season arrives.

He played both last year.

Should play both again and adjust accordingly depending on how his body feels.

Got a different piece of information but do not care enough to check out which is a fake one.
Not sure it can be some mind games like fake Press Conf in AO, it is really too soon to be effective.

Godsick said Federer will play only once on Clay in 2020 (French Open)

Federer ne jouera qu'à Roland-Garros sur terre battue en 2020 - Tennis

Hope you Federesians did not buy expensive Italian and Spanish tickets yet.
