Just want to draw a parrellel between the time Federer beating Roddick who ended the year as #1, and this year shall Federer be eliminated. I think the answer is quite obvious:), but comparing to the time when people disputed Roddick's #1 status, would not it be hypocrisy not to dispute shall Federer end the year with a loss?

Re: Federer may get eliminated in YEC and still ends up #1 (= 2003 replay v. Roddick)

Two completely different seasons. When you win 3 slams and are the runner-up in the other one in a calendar year, just about nothing else matters.

People who disputed Roddick's year end #1 in 2003 are also dumb. 4 seperate people won Slams that year, and Roddick was the best out of all 4 of them .

have to agree with the others on this one.

year end no. 1 has a pretty straight forward meaning, and this year it should be fairly obvious who it should go to.

Many [including me] feel that FED`s 2003 was more impressive than A.Rod`s;)

*FED won Wimby = A.Rod won USO
*FED won TMC >>> A.Rod made SFs
*A.Rod won 2 TMS >> FED
*FED won 7-titles > A.Rod won 6-titles
*FED won titles on 4-surfaces >> A.Rod won on 2-surfaces
*FED won more matches than A.Rod
*FED had a leading H2H over other top-10 players, A.Rod a losing H2H
...
looking @ most of the categories Roger played a better year than Roddick:devil:

Federer only out performed Roddick and Ferrero at the optionals in 2003. Ferrero would have finished year #1 had he played more optionals. He played 4 less events than Fed and 3 less than Roddick. Had he played 3 more optionals with good results he likely would have been #1.

Anyone who ever disputes any world #1 at any time is just talking nonsense.

However much you try to twist the facts, at the end of the day numbers don't lie. Irrespective of the level of his achievements and/or competition, he is the best in the world at that given time.

That year is long gone  But who knows - he may make a comeback :)

What a fatuous comparison.

Anyone can lose to anyone but that doesn't change the fact that someone is in general the best player. Federer is still number one regardless of the tournament at the end of the whole season. It's not even close even if Roddick wins.
