federer getting to the final at aussie ??

2011: knocked out in semis by peak nole
2012: knocked out in 4 sets by nadal
2013: barely beaten after tsonga 5 setters by murry in 5 sets by peak murray
2014: beaten by nadal in 3 sets

2015???

He can't face NOLE in semis and would beat murray if they play. Ill always pick nadal against federer but after surgery maybe even has some shot against nadal like 25% but thats provided nadal makes it to the semis after he was struggling a bit there even before his surgery..

Can and will fed get past the semis.... catch 22... does he want stan in his half to avoid nadal... or does he want nadal in his half knowing that nadal will get knocked out and stan has a shot to actually beat nole in the other half....

He'll still want Stan with the hope of Rafa beating Novak

If Rafa can beat Novak in SF at AO, Fed has no chance against him in the final even if they play an 8 hour marathon.

Roger wants Stan in his half because he knows he will beat him and he has no chance against Rafa.
Stan wants to be in Nole's half because he knows he has a much better chance against Novak than against Roger.
Rafa wil want to be in Roger's half, because it's almost a certainty that he will beat Roger.
So Stan and Rafa want the same. Roger wants the opposite.
I wonder what Novak wants. The way Stan has played against him in the last two AO events, I don't think he's looking forward to meeting him. But it's not as if Rafa is a much better option.
Nole may be the only player who has no clear favourite.
Whatever the luck of the draw gives him. :D

Nole doesn't want much except to be loved by his opponents and fans.

What ? Even putting aside the fact that no player in the world would ever choose to play Nadal over Wawrinka for obvious reasons, Djokovic pretty much dominates Wawrinka (16-3 H2H); yes Wawrinka beat him last year at AO and caused him trouble a few more times, but Nadal did that 9 times at Slams and 23 overall.

It's a pretty safe bet that if the other 126 players in the AO draw could make the draw, they'd all put themselves in Wawrinka's half/quarter as opposed to Nadal's.

Well: he got half his wish. More than most of us. :D
If Nole wants to win AO, he most likely has to go through Nadal, either in SF or F. The most ideal scenario for Federer would be having Nole take out Rafa in 6 hour marathon SF. Wawa somehow always chokes against Federer so if he ends up in Fed's half, Fed's road to the final would be wide open. Lastly given the choice, perhaps none of these top 4 seeds would want to face Nishikori in QF.

Even if he reaches final , he will give w/o to other finalist.
Depends if he draws Rafa or not. If he avoid Rafa then yeah he has good chances of reaching the final, but still he might face an on fire opponent in the earlier rounds or be beaten by Kei, Berdych, Stan, etc.. We'll see. Avoiding Rafa is key.

Rafa will be match fit for AO15 because he played so well in October. He won so many matches the last 4 months of the season. So Rafa will be in Final of AO15.
You know if reaches the SF(if they are draw together), it will be show that he's not doing bad actually. so he'll probably beat Federer. Even if Rafa is in poor form in the earlier rounds, he still turns up against Fed. That's why it's important for Fed to avoid him, which could happen even if Rafa is drawn with him as he might lose earlier.
I think he has a good chance, he ended 2014 right during his run of good form, since Shanghai he has played very well, except WTF where he wasn't 100% and the court made no sense, and Bercy where the court made no sense, not to mention he always plays equal or better at the start of the year than the end of the previous year, he just has to avoid an upset, and then if the courts are low bouncing enough he can beat Nadal.

You don't know that, maybe doll's knees start acting up in the 5th set. He's not 20 anymore

Wawrinka from the last 3 matches vs Novak is not the same player as before those matches. He has entered his prime! but I agree, nobody wants Rafa!
Basically for Fed best case scenario =
Avoid until final:
1. Rafa
2. Nishikori
3. Cilic
4. Berdych

Preferably in his half:
1. Wawa
2. Murray
3. Raonic
4. Ferrer

"Would beat Murray if they play"

Yeah, cos that's really a given. Murray will be back better after the off season.

How do you work that out, Nadal is coming back from injury and he lost a set to Dimitrov last year a Federer clone. This is hardly Nadal's best slam and I don't think it's a certain he will make Semi-finals.

On the question, Federer wants to avoid Nadal no matter what, he has a chance of beating Djokovic I think although it would be tough.
Federer maybe does not care for AO anyway . If he had he should stay and train in Dubai but he spent a lot of time in cold Switzerland. It has not happened for the last 7 or 8 years so he does not care for AO. Plus for the 1st time he has no schedule for 2015 on his website. He only said that he will take long break after AO nothing more. IMO Wimbeldon is the only GS he cares and wants to win.
