this was a much better match for both of them. what's Pete's serve speed in mph, 217 km's was a big one. His serve is still great, and his volley if he doesn't have to bend for them, hit and returned some nice angles on groundies today, too. Roger, as well, played with more edge, better first serve percentage than in the first match, and quite a few moments of magic, thank goodness :) There were half a dozen points where they we stretched by each other, and that was the most fun to see.

You get the feeling that a "peak" Sampras , would have a slight edge over Roger .

If you watched this match , it's obvious that Roger doesn't really have an answer to Pete's retirement serve .
Only if you watched this match and forgot it was just an exhibitiion match :p

Mark my words, Fed will let Pete win the last match with a similar scoreline than this, and everyone goes home happy. I can see the headlines already: "The old champion still has it!", "Pete to play Wimbledon -08?" "Sampras playing as well as he ever did!"

What amazes me in some Sampras fans is that how they, sometimes, overlook Pete's talents (as strangely as it might sound). Pete still has a good game, enough to pull a couple of upsets on the ments tour. On a given day he still is able to show some magic. Hell, we forget that Agassi, at 35, was playing the USO final ...

Anyway. It is always great watching Pete playing, and realizing how much of a legend he is. And, who knows, next match he takes a set off of Roger!

Well looks the trend seems to be

Match 1: Straight forward victory for Fed

Match 2: Make it look competitive but never in trouble

Match 3: Take it to a third set tie break.

God I just can't get over how pointless this exhibition is. Sampras is a retired player no matter how good he is. And Fed is a player in his prime. It's a silly idea to have this exho and any thread on this is making me sour:(

Well acted, Roger.
Now make the next match even closer, heck might as well lose that match, so the hypemachine can work overtime to your final(?) match at Madison Square. It is going to be a sell-out.
