Still quite patchy, but more good patches than bad, the backhand in particular was much improved. Once he's able to hit dropshots over the net with any kind of consistency he'll be in better shape, it was quite amusing to see him try one out of stubbornness at 5-2, 40-0 and even though it went in, he still lost the point and got pushed to deuce.

Federer d. Hanescu 6-3,6-2

My countrymen, Hanescu, is a total mug.
Federer was not at all tested.
1 hour training during a rainy day.

He wasn't a mug the last time he ran into Federer, was he, considering the players he beat at RG - Chela, Horna and Nalbandian back-to-back-to-back is quite an impressive feat, and not the kind of draw Federer would want in Paris.

Fed was hitting the ball quite well. On the other hand, Hanescu does nothing with the ball and contributed to a nice practice session.

Yeah, you're right, was an exceptional RG for Hanescu.
The only big tournament he played at his best.
He'll never be in top 50.

Roger's carbuncle looks like it is filled with a lot of pus... you can see a lot of white matter in the top of the carbuncle, it is so gross and disgusting... he is going to need tons of antibiotics to get rid off the repulsive infection he has in his body... :bolt:  :ras: :scared: :ignore: :speakles: :shout: :haha:  :rolls:

Finally a decent match from Roger. It's been a while. Good to see his backhand working today - more points made with the BH than with the FH even! :yeah:

But it's hard to tell whether this solid victory wasn't for a great deal the result of a very mediocre playing by Hanescu. He even stopped trying during that second set IMHO.

Funny to see Fed trying out some stuff in the last few games, resulting in a weak final game. Whatever...

Good win, Feds. Keep it going! :D

 I can totally imagine this

Was it Murray who tried like 4 dropshots in row, missing all of them?

BTW, anyone has any stats for this match? How many UEs from Fed, 1st round he had a gazillion or two.

Next match he'll have the crowd against him either way, could be an enjoyable encounter.

They didn't show the stats where I was watching, but I don't think I saw more than just a few UEs from Fed (some silly dropshots, as mentioned before). Completely the opposite of his match against Rochus - serve wasn't that impressive, but on all other accounts he played a lot, lot better.

Well not too many players want to meet Fed although they now feel they can beat him. Maybe Federer just made it hared for dude to play his game.

I don't have the stats but after a rash of mishits in the first few games the only really bad errors were these dropshots that barely even made it to the net. He can hit some beauties, I remember a faded backhand angle cross-court off the return against Mathieu in Rome some years ago, but overall they're outweighed by the clunkers. Roche even laughed at one attempt early on in his match with Coria at Hamburg 2005.

good match from Federer although Hanescu seemed like he wasnt dealing well with the slow dump court. Much better BH and also good court coverage

hilarious stuff with those dropshots, half of them were bouncing on Fed's court before reaching the net

An "appropriate" medical timeout should take care of things.
