Del Potty struggled with a wrist injury early on, got better in the 2nd set.

Never in doubt, Del Potty didn't truly believe he could win.

Even if JMDP had the will of a horror movie murderer stumbling across drunken teens he would've had no chance today. Federer was very solid off the ground and played some nice points. JMDP won't ever trouble Federer imo, he doesn't have the right game and Federer can deal with those flat low strokes easily.

Good serving day for Federer as well although he was broken. JMDP needs to sort himself out with regards to serve, he put a load of first serves in but got burned anyway, for a guy 6"5 that just isn't good enough.

I'm with you on this. I think Shanghai has priority for Roger and he wants to participate there rested.

Maybe he will change his schedule next year and play Paris instead of one of the other tournaments.

Apart from a shank here and there, Fed played very well - walked all over del Potro in the 1st set (who had a bit of a wrist problem early on, but that seemed to settle as the match progressed). Fed served fairly solidly, though somehow got broken in his first serving game in the 2nd - one or two unforceds - you know the drill. But he already had a break and broke again to go ahead once more. del Pot played a lot better in the 2nd set and started holding serve fairly easily, but couldn't break back. Iffy game serving for the match - went to 30 all/deuce etc - but did it in the end.

Fed hit quite a few of those sick shots that make the jaw drop - some incredible stuff - crazy angles, half volleys and such - in amongst good solid play. del Pot played some good shots too - one or two searing forehands on return of serve, but only 1 backhand winner, I think. He didn't stand a chance - there was never any feeling (from me anyway) that he could come back and make a real match of it like Berrer did the other night. The scoreline says it all really.

Bit vague, I'm afraid, but hope it gives you some idea.

What JMDP really lacks is a good 1st serve... which is odd since his height should, in theory, allow him to hit some nice bombs. It escapes me why his serve is so weak? If he could rely on winning his service games more comfortably, he'd be some serious threat to anyone.

At one point Frew McMillan pointed out midway through the second set that he had a first serve percentage of 73% yet only held serve once out of five attempts

He won all of the long rallies with some really nice winners/angles - and that's the best sign to look for, I think, if you want to get a sense of his tennis on a given day.

As I stated earlier on JMDP gives him a lot of rythm and the right amount of pace, some but not too much. Really it's like Roger's perfect ball machine, JMDP always makes him look good.

Both of them turning up in Paris is a big question mark, then both of them reaching the final means it is fairly unlikely we will see another final between the two in Paris.
