Dan Evans produced another upset at this year’s US Open with victory over Bernard Tomic in the second round.

The Brit defeated number 11 seed Kei Nishikori earlier this week and continued his excellent season on the hard courts in North America with the 3-1 win over the Australian.

After winning the opening set 6-1 it looked as though Tomic was going to be on course for a comfortable afternoon against the world number 179. However, Evans soon levelled with the second set 6-3.

Both players served well in the third set which resulted in a crucial tie-breaker, eventually won by the qualifier to help him within touching distance of another big scalp.

The win was wrapped up with a 6-3 scoreline in the fourth set which was enough for Evans to book a spot in the third round for the first time in a Grand Slam in his career.

Five-time winner Roger Federer was no such victim of an upset, he breezed past Carlos Berlocq in straight sets. The Swiss dropped just six games in the win, much to the relief of people who bet on tennis with bet365.

A perennial favourite in the tennis betting, Federer is searching for his first Grand Slam since winning Wimbledon in 2012 where he defeated Andy Murray in the final. His last success at Flushing Meadows was in 2008 which brought up a run of five consecutive titles in New York in what is the final Grand Slam of the year.

Number four seed David Ferrer has had a consistent season so far and continued his run in this year’s US Open with a 3-1 win over Roberto Bautista Agut. The unseeded player took the second set in a tie-break against his fellow Spanish compatriot but was unable to get past a solid Ferrer who dropped just three games after that point.
