Hopefully Richard will be back on court soon only when he's ready to compete! No need to rush, it's good news to hear that his back pain has almost disappeared.

Hopefully Barcelona if not then Estotri. :)

Sad news, Richard has withdrawn from Barcelona. He's practising every day in RG, but it seems not ready to compete.

Get well soon Richard!

This damned injury. Like in Monte Carlo last year, Richard withdraws from a tournament where I will be present. However, I have been fearing this all week, a week of practise - probably only light practise, is simply not enough to be ready for a real tournament.

But with all the disappointment, I prefer him to return to the courts only when he is ready and able to compete, I do not want to see the shadow of himself he was in some tournaments last year.

Richard was practising with Bautista-Agut today in Barcelona, luckily on the only publicly accessible practise court, so I could see him. He still seems cautious on serve and did not chase down everything, but the set went to 4 all. They played a breaker after that, as Rublev was already there for his practice, if I counted correctly they stopped the breaker with one minibreak for Bautista, but I am not 100 % sure, the view was not great.

Great you could see him finally :)

In l'equipe he says he's quite worried he don't know if he's ready only matches will deliver the answer

Yes he seems worried, I guess he still will not be able to play 100% freely.

Here's his Estoril draw:
5) Gasquet vs Matosevic
Elias vs Qualifier
Robert vs Almagro
(4) L. Mayer vs Bye

I have also seen him on the two following days in inaccessible areas, Barcelona's lack of public practise courts (there is only one ) makes it difficult to meet the players.

Tomorrow 12.30 local. 2.30 CEST.
Feel like it's been ages.

Easy opponent to start. Matosevic is on a 6 match losing streak. Last two on clay, and he retired in Houston.

Straight set win. First match he completed in over 2 months.

Next up deSchepper who beat Elias after coming through qualifying. Another relatively easy one.

I have not seen anything, but the breaker must have been nerve-wrecking, 9 aces look good in relation to the back.

In the first set Richard was leading 4-1, and after the match went so close on to the tie break. He was a little bit rusty, and played so carefully understandably .
In the second set he played so much better , hitting aces , find his rhythm . It is a great start for him, knowing the circumstances. So congrats.

Second match vs de Schepper today, it's about 17.30 .
Allez Richard!

He says he's not ready in his tennis game and would have lost the match if he lost the first set. No pain but he's careful and thinks all the time at the injury

Easy win against de Schepper, 6-2 6-3, as soon as Richard had found out that he had to move his opponent around.

Excellent win against Almagro: 6-1 7-6. Richard saved four bps in the first game and showed from the start that he would not disappaer without a fight. Very good first set, in which he showed his variety: 4 volley winners, 3 drop shot winners, the official winner stats were wrong by the way. A lapse of concentration at the start of the second set, but Almagro showed nerves when he served for the set and allowed Richard back in the match. A rather convicning breaker from Richard, a BH winner and an ace sufficed. Congrats, Richard, well done. :D

Good win indeed :D

Richard's not the favourite in next match either. GGL coming of a 8 match win streak, though before that he had a terrible straight loss to Ouhab in Casablanca. Richard has destroyed GGL in each of their previous meetings, but they were all a long time ago and well before GGL became the player he is today.

Allez, Richard! It's been too long. :tears:
