My bad English. He decided not to play.

Re: Djokovic withdraw Estoril

Nole wasn't entered for Estoril this year. There were rumours he'd ask for a WC after early exit in Miami but no more than that. He needs to manage his schedule better this year to avoid last year's autumn burnout so this is sensible. Estoril is sadly one of the casualties.

Yeah, he was never in the entry list.

People probably assumed he was going to play because he is the defending champion, but he was never supposed to come in the first place anyway.

Roumors - to fix ball bouncing and prepare to clay season seriously.

He doesn't even play Davis Cup next week, Estoril is the week after that. So coming into Monte Carlo Djokovic will have played one match in four weeks.

I don't know what is Djokovic thinking. He will probably not attack rankings in first half of this year.
I think he wants to prepare technically for Roland Garros.

I guess you can understand him not playing. Would have been good to have this as a strong optional, but it looks like he is trying to get the edge over Federer with a run of strong TMS and GS results, which is a sensible long-term plan...will also reduce his chances of burnout.

I agree. It's not a bad plan at all. After all Federer dominated the rankings for four years playing a schedule with very very few optionals.

Smart move...it may look like he needs the points now, but whatever he wins now he'll have to defend next year of course. So, he's sacrificing smaller tournaments right now and focusing mainly on MS and GS...he'll lose the points, but next year he'll have better schedule. He doesn't want what what happened to him at the end of 2007 where he was 100% burned out.
