Why don't Americans play MC - i've looked at last years draw and not one American - what am I missing?

Thanks

Re: Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated 4/13/07)

Americans don't play in MC because they have to come back in two weeks for Rome, when they typically stay in Europe through Wimbledon--9 weeks. If they played in Monte Carlo on a surface that they're not likely to do well on, they would probably have to stay for an additional 3 weeks. For most of them, staying away from home just isn't worth a few points from (maybe) winning a round or two. However, I think Roddick may have been planning on playing it this year until he got injured (I may not be right about that).
