#1 Ferrer lost to Baghdatis (6-2 7-6)
#3 Lopez lost to Lu (6-3 6-2)

#11 Andujar lost to Dolgopolov
Ramos lost to Chung
Almagro lost to Istomin
Carreno Busta lost to (WC) Fritz
Gimeno-Traver lost to (Q) Sela
Granollers lost to Simon

Only Lopez and Granollers won a match. Everyone else fell at the first hurdle.

Wonder how much their ongoing drama/boycott/beef with the Spanish Tennis Federation is affecting their concentration, and how much is just due to Spaniards-On-Grass.

The dramallama with the Spaniard tennis fed probably isn't helping, but also.......

DGT/Ramos are mediocre on grass.

Andujar can only aspire to being mediocre on grass (0-13 now!)

PCB sucks on grass also, and was playing a clay challenger final on Sunday.

Ferrer/Almagro hadn't played on grass at all beforehand, had zero practice time on grass in Notts because of the rain, and faced very competent grasscourters in v good form.

Lu was also excellent today against Lopez.

Simon is simply a better player than Granollers.

Only Lopez and to a certain extent Ferrer is a decent grass player, all other Spaniards are mugs on the surface.
They are much better on clay and hardcourts, it's like a tradition for them.

Have to say from the relatively low number of Spanish players going deep on RG, and now the Spanish players having problem on Grass, I guess we could say there must be some fixing to do, and some thinking how to still keep up their relative dominance in the top.

Strong username to thread topic correlation.

Grass is not a surface for pushers.
