Nadal, the World number two, and three-time champion at Roland Garros aims at becoming the first player to win four titles in Barcelona.
The Mallorcan has won in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and shares three singles titles with Australian Roy Emerson (1961, 1962 and 1963), the Spanish Manuel Orantes (1969, 1971 and 1976) and the Swedish Mats Wilander (1982 , 1983 and 1984).
"Everyone knows that Barcelona is a very special tournament for me. Was playing in my club here and I have always felt a special affection and support . Winning this tournament is something incredible for me because in Barcelona there is a special level of players, and this year certainly will be again a tournament with a large enrollment, "explained Rafael Nadal.

Since 2009, the tournament will double its current endowment at 2 million, and will occupy the week number 17 of the professional calendar (18 to 26 April).
