Is there really a benefit to having to commit? Just doesn't seem like there's an advantage, 8 people are in, if someone doesn't send then one of the Alts get in, what advantage is there to cutting that person out a day early because they didn't commit? Not having a commitment gives them an extra day to realize that the WTF is happening and to play, the only thing this does is take someone out if they weren't here for a few days before the tournament even started. Commitments for actual tournaments when everyone gets in is fine because you need to know how many people for draw size and stuff, but for a tournament where the cutoff is 8, seems unnecessary.
Like it makes sense for doubles because teams have to be formed, you can't just put someone in when they haven't been here to agree on a partner, but for singles they can be in right up to the point where they officially don't actually send at which point they wouldn't be competing anymore.
But what's done is done, just for next year there probably doesn't need to be commitments in singles, all it does is potential harm without any potential benefits imo.
