Re: Doubles race standing

The race to the doubles Masters Cup is getting close, with less than 100 pts seperating now between 4th and 11th. Llodra and Santoro who were 6th before US Open were overtake by Aspelin/Perry and Arthurs/Hanley and dropped to 8th. Only the top 7 will qualify as Wimbledon champions Huss& Moodie are guarantied a place in the MC provided they stay in the top 20 (and unless the team that will win US Open won't be in the top 7 but ahead of them).

Re: Doubles race standing

Huss isn't having a good summer, poor guy. He lost early in LA where he played with Ashley Fisher. Ashley is supposedly Aussie, but I talked to him, he had a deep Southern accent. Why is that? I know he went to TCU for a while, but he didn't have any trace of Aussie accent at all.

Re: Doubles race standing

Monday matches: (still 3rd round)

Gonzalez/Massu vs Bryan/Bryan
Bhupathi/Damm vs Aspelin/Perry
Bjorkman/Mirnyi vs Lopez/Verdasco

No changes in the ranking are expected

If Verdasco lose, all 4 QF can be played on Tuesday (otherwise his doubles match is likely to be on Wednesday because he plays in singles QF)

Re: Doubles race standing

A bit off topic... I find it especially unfair that the new entry system in doubles is introduced shortly before the end of season, when teams are fighting to reach the Masters Cup. Some couples just won't get the chance to score enough points to qualify because singles players will take their place in tournaments.
At least they should have waited to the new year to implement such drastic changes!

Re: Doubles race standing

Standing updated after Monday matches (3rd round completed)

All 4 QF will be played on Tuesday, with Bjorkman/Mirnyi vs Suk/Vizner playing first on Ashe, the 2 matches featuring Americans on Armstrong and Black/Ullyett vs Erlich/Ram first on Grandstand. BTW, the Israel vs Zimbabwa clash will be repeated in 18 days time at Harare when the 2 nations meet in Davis Cup.

As far as the race for Shanghai is concerned, the important matches are those involving Aspelin/Perry and Erlich/Ram. Win for A&P over unseeded Americans Goldstein & Thomas will put them in 5th place ahead of Paes/Zimonjic. Win for E&R will lift them above Arthurs/Hanley and Llodra/Santoro, and also A&P in case they lose. That will be their first time in the top-7 since March (they were 5th after they won Rotterdam in February), and will also equal their carreer best result at Wimbledon 2003.
If Suk/Vizner beat the top seeds Bjorkman & Mirnyi, which is very unlikely, they will move above their countrymen Cermak & Friedel to 10th place.
If B&M lose, the Bryans can take the #1 spot in the Race if they beat the unseeded Frenchmen Benneteau & Mahut.

Yeah, so Bjorkman/Mirnyi won, as did Black Ullyett.

Re: Doubles race standing

Erlich/Ram, Aspelin/Perry and Suk/Vizner were all eliminated in the QF, so there's status quo behind the top 3, who move on to the SF along with rank outsiders Glodstein&Thomas

Thanks for doing this doubles standing work! I hope that E/R can perform well the rest of the year and get to the Masters! That would be such a kick!

Re: Doubles race standing

Bob and Mike Bryan won the US Open and climbed to the top of the ranking, ahead of losing finalists Bjorkan & Mirnyi. Both couples have allready passed the 1000 pts mark.
The Bryan twins, Bjorkman/Mirnyi and Black/Ullyet have secured their place in the Masters Cup. Huss/Moodie will be there as well as long as they stay in the top-20.
