MTF can be pretty dead sometimes. RBA played so well and hard just to win a 250, well deserved.

Berdych might still have life left in him too.

Thought there would be a thread which didn't receive much attention, but welcome to the KAndyfan's world OP.

But yeah, very great final with both of men playing their heart out to have a proper comeback. Neither wanted to accept a loss here, but Berdych seemed to get too tight at the end and lost it. Great from RBA to keep on playing almost the same level he displayed against Djokovic and didn't unfold like most would do after a big win. Vamos Roberto!

Beating Wawrinka, Djokovic and Berdych in 3 days to win a 250 title? I am unsure anybody will have 3 bigger names defeated to win a 250 title this season. Well earned title for RBA.

This is the fourth consecutive year he won a title in the first two weeks of the season. That is super impressive, he must do something right in the off season for them results, that isn't luck. Once again this season he is going to be a big threat in a lot of the best of 3 events, might even win another ATP 500 if he remains playing so well.

However for RBA he really needs to convert it to a long overdue run towards QF at a slam. Maybe he changes that this season?

Finally, as for Berdych I think this week shows there might be life in him yet. I would say he is going to be more dangerous over best of 5 sets and somebody that one of seeds really won't be happy if they draw him in R1/R2 in the AO. If he can get in the section with one of the more vulnerable top 16 seeds I think he can go quite far.

Eh... had a feeling Berdych could have won this and thank God I was working so I won't be mad at him for missing this chance. I've read he had BP to go ahead in S3 and BPs to break back.

MTF tends to be quite dead in the off season and it carries on a bit till AO. As opposed to other clay court specialist Spaniards I don't think anyone has anything against RBA, he has a game that is fun to watch and that FH is an absolute delight.

Am a bit sad for Berdych as this could've been a sweet comeback but RBA definitely deserved this. Played great tennis this week and got the job done after taking out Nole in the SF, brilliant job.

Very happy for Roberto Bautista-Agut, I hate it when a player does the dirty job (beating the best player in the draw) to lose in the final to someone who had an easier draw. Well done!

It's strange because Roberto had many fans here on Friday, yet the next day most of those fans are gone.

Well, a good title for RBA. Berdych did make the final, so not bad, not bad at all. Will be interesting to see how well Tsonga, Stan, Murray and Berdych get on at the OZ open.

In a few games I saw Berdych was hitting to RBA's FH and FH only. No idea what was his plan. Perhaps his backhand wasn't cooperating. Overall he didn't impress me as much as at beginning of 2018, but we shall see. RBA is an established pre-AO beast. Great run.

RBA's more attuned to hard courts than to clay, so there's little connection to clay-oriented countrymen other than nationality.

I was rooting for Berdych here but hard to begrudge RBA this title :hatoff: Played really well this week as I knew he was capable of - the SF result certainly not a fluke as some here would like to think.

Yes and I addressed that, I was making the distinction between clay court specialist Spaniards and RBA because OP seemed to simply state "non Spaniards" and RBA is just a bit different to most top players from Spain.

RBA could not have been any luckier throughout these last few matches. Berdych should have broken back in the third set with RBA serving at 4-2, but he fluked a few defensive points and then drew the UEs from Tomas. Unfortunate, but at least he will never win anything above a 250.

Edit: Just realized he has already won a 500 in Dubai. Too bad.

What a deserved 250 title for RBA ! . A tough one . One of the most hard fought and difficult path for the kind recently, I guess.

I see MTF chnaging a little with respect of him , and not undeservedly group him with other spanish double surname players, anymore

Respect

Deserved title for RBA and a good start to the comeback for Berdman.
