Pulling a Fed = skipping the clay season and avoiding yearly beating by Nadal

Does this reduces the player's case in the GOAT debate or not? Should Djokovic start pulling a Fed or should he keep getting the beating year after year?

Discuss.

No, that would be pulling Ex-goatpras, and it certainly could be beneficial, as was e.g. beneficial for Murray in 2013, or for Sampras who used to skip the better part of the CC season by withdrawing and by losing earlier therein.

Another approach would be skipping masters by losing earlier therein and making sure that you are 100 % fit & fresh for upcoming slam(s) like Stan the (slam) man.

Everyone skipped the AO until 1983 but I'm not here on this thread to review the history and clarify why.

he has been pulling the clay crap stunt for a long time. As sub-par as pete was on clay post 1996, at least he played all the way through to retirement in 2002

Sheer uselessness on clay is what obviously eliminates Fed from the GOAT debate. An octopous in the Sahara would do better. Fedtards lame excuses about it have gone from hilarious to pathetic.

Why would this reduce his GOAT claim? The only punishment of skipping the clay season is built into it: he can't win any clay events he doesn't play, which means he has 0 chance of adding another Roland Garros title or finally winning Rome or Monte Carlo. There shouldn't be an additional punishment for skipping clay, given that Rafa has missed the indoor and grass seasons multiple times and Djokovic used to retire from matches every 2 weeks (it felt like) when he was younger. I don't hold those things against Rafa/Djokovic, and I don't hold this against Roger.

Yeah, uselessness on clay, reaching SF of RG last year losing only to Rafa after 2 competitive first sets in extremely windy conditions.

Lol last year proved he doesn’t opt out of facing Dull. He came through a tough match with Wawrinka and it wouldn’t be suspicious at all if he lost that one but he won and ended up losing to Dull after in SF.

He reached the final of FO pretty much every year in his prime and was only stopped by Dull and Fed managed to make every match competitive with winning a set other than 08.

If reaching the final pretty much every year in your prime is useless, then what does that make Dull for losing before the QF at Wimby for 6 straight years to players ranked outside top 100 ehh?

You should be glad that Federer skipped the 2017 clay. Otherwise he would've leading h2h now.

No.

Novak has completed a NCYRGS: (Non-Calendar Year Retirements from Grand Slams) and even got defaulted from the USO 20 and that hasn't quite eliminated Djoker from the GOAT debate!

:p
