no i'm not referring to sex altho' y'all can feel free to put anything in the mix.
it seems to me as if tennis players each just get a turn to be hot, to become the player of the moment that no-one can beat. they enter a kind of zone for a while and are unstoppable. and then they seem to run out of steam and they might as well retire at that point bec the moment has passed and they're back to being mere mortals.
take Paradorn Schrichipan (sp) for example. right now he's the hottest thing since sliced bread. how hot will he be in another month or three? how soon will he start to fade?
i don't mean to be pessimistic. i'm just thinking of guys who were so hot for a while and seemed so unbeatable. where are they now. the list is endless.
was a time when Hewitt was the guy to beat. where is he now?
was a time when the sight of Guga on the other side of the net made guys hearts quake. where is he now?
where's Safin? who remembers his glorious run in 2000?
i can go on with the names but i think you get my point.
is it that the planets allign themselves for a period to offer greatness to a player, and you'd better ride that wave while you have it bec miss it and you're out?
or do players just push themselves and bodies to the brink and then spend years recovering?
or is it all psychological. you feel invincible and for a while you actually are, and then the doubts step in and you can't see or hit the ball for dear life.
what's the deal? thoughts? feelings?
