One (among many) important achievements Djokovic managed with his Wimbledon win 4 days ago, and which has largely gone unnoticed (both on this forum and elsewhere; I checked, there is not a single thread dealing with this) is something which his detractors have brought up many times in the past.

Namely, he has now defended titles on all 4 currently existing surfaces (clay, grass, outdoor and indoor hard).

Congrats, Djoko. :yeah:

And to think that just 2 months ago, he only defended titles on 2 hardcourt surfaces. ;)

This is the correct version, the rest is ok.

Indoor is just a condition not a surface....

Nope, Rafa has not defend a title outside clay.

Ok I didn't think so but wasn't sure...I removed my comment because it looked like I was being a smart ass

Bravo No1e :yeah:

He also defended his RG title this year after beating Nadal.
Well Rafa is so lucky that in 2016 he only needs to defend the Argentinian slam and Stuttgart Masters

Here is the full list

Really few players defend a title on Grass, Clay, Hard Outdoor and Hard Indoor/Carpet. He is the only 8th player to do it, 7 of them with 7+ Slams :worship:, Only Nadal (Grass), Agassi(Grass) and Sampras(Clay) didn't make the list.

One could argue that Nadal has never truly won a title off of clay.

As they say, it isn't really a break until you consolidate it. All of Nadal's non-clay wins could be regarded as flukes.
If you can construct such an argument, then the same can be done for his clay wins, too.

And, according to Bry17may's list, of those 8, only 5 have defended their titles at GS (Federer not among them), Borg being the only one who defended 2 GS titles. But Novak is the only one who defended the WTF title.

Bry17may, how come you count Novak's Dubai title for an outdoor hard, he defended more important AO title, and he did it 2 times.
