...for being the only player in Open Era history to have 3 runners-up at RG and not win the title. Of course, Federer was also in this position after the 2008 final, and by winning it the next year he lost this record, too.

He has the opportunity to tie Federer for most runners-up next year, who is 1-4 in finals.

He's also tied Lendl's record for having the most match wins in a slam you haven't won with 48. Lendl's is Wimbledon, of course.

Let's go through each of them:

Fed at Australian Open final: 1st attempt
Fed at Roland Garros: 4th attempt
Fed at Wimbledon: 1st attempt
Fed at US OPEN: 1st attempt

Nadal at Australian Open final: 1st attempt
Nadal at Roland Garros: 1st attempt
Nadal at Wimbledon: 3rd attempt
Nadal at US OPEN: 1st attempt

Novak at Australian Open final: 1st attempt
Novak at Roland Garros: 0 after 3 attempts
Novak at Wimbledon: 1st attempt
Novak at US OPEN: 3rd attempt

So basically Nadal and Fed were pretty much the same winning all but 1 of their slams immediately in the final before having to wait for that elusive one.

Novak took his sweet time at the US OPEN and now has to go through the same thing here.Hurts more and more every year and just adds to the anxiety and you play behind eight ball when you do it.Get it out of the way like Fed or Nadal most of time and you're playing with house money.Novak is slowly going down the Lendl path.
