The Clay season is upon us and now is the time to ruminate upon the performance of the new GOAT

Re: Djokovic and potential Clay Conquests or What will he win?

Who has ever said he's the GOAT?

And was 'ruminate' used intentionally (aka 4 stomachs) or by happy chance?

I dont see him winning anything on clay this year, that would imply beating Nadal and I honestly don't see him doing that on clay. If Rafa gets bumped by someone like Davydenko in a semifinal and Djoko makes the final, them maybe, but "no" is still a much safer answer.

He's Future Golden GOAT.

He'll probably win them all, because that is what I would least like to happen and that is how tennis is working in 2008.

I'm afraid we're gonna have to wait at least untei Montecarlo to know..

There's no way to know how we will be playing on clay. It's a fact he has improved from last year, we could see that on hard courts (his serve, for example). And he will certailny show he has also improved on clay. But right now we have no way to know how much he has improved and if it is enough to win a MS/FO.

I just don't see it happening, he is still not physically fit enough to endure long matches, let alone back to back matches, which he will have to do to win these tournaments (unless he gets cake walk draws).

I think he does not have a chance. He is not a specialist , he has never been top level on the clay. He is definitively a fast court player.

He can maybe reach a semi or a final.

I don't think he's improved that much from last spring, tbh.

At this point Nole is a lot more draw dependent on clay than he is on hard. He had a dream of a draw last year at RG and, to his credit, took full advantage of it.

Last year in the pre RG swing he lost to Moya, Nadal twice and Ferrer.

He beat some good clay players (Andreev, Gaudio :tape:) but he didn't really have to face any top claycourters except for the ones he lost to. I'd be interested to see how he does against an Almagro or a Monaco this year. I'm sure none of the top guys want to see those names near theirs early in the draw.

None of them Hema

if Rafatitio is in the field - then you know who has won that event already.

Fed was smart by playing Estoril... thats the key, play in tournies where 'titio wont be playing and you might grab a title

so Nole is winning sweet F.A

Semis and Quarters

No Masters, No RG- Those Djokotrolls are deluding themselves and deceiving the rest of us.

Djoker is NOT the male version of Graf. Stop deluding yourselves already.

I agree with most of what you say. But you have to agree with me that exactly a year ago he was not only a different player but also a different person. Besides, ha is having his time to get ready right? And do you actually believe that he will never improve on clay? His game will always be the same? He has potencial and is 20 yaers old so we have to believe that he will eventually improve on clay, why not this year?

I am not saying tht this is the year we will notice the difference, but someday I think we will.

Hmm, I don't see any great improvements in his game from this time last year to now. He played excellent tennis at IW/Miami last year. I think his dramatic improvement came between late 2006 and 2007. Last year his head was up his ass, this year his head is up his ass so no great changes there either ;) Of course I think he will continue to improve as he gets older, and I have no doubts he will win titles on clay.

For this year though, I'd say the outcome of the clay events will depend entirely on Nadal. If he plays at the level he displayed last year, then Novak (and every other player) will only have a chance to win tournaments he doesn't enter. The changes to the calendar will likely help with this, as I think Rafa will find it impossible to play at his clay God level for 4 straight weeks. If Rafa's level has dropped, then I suppose anything can happen.

That is exactly what I've been saying and thinking.

Clay season totally depends on Nadal. If he does his best all the way, nobody stands a chance.

But honestly, I dont believe that righ now Nadal has what it takes to win all 4 tournaments in a row.. I find it very hard to see him winning the 4 of them.

Last year he didn't win the four but almost, and I dont think this year he will be able to do the same..

But in the case Nadal isn't the "clay monster" we are used to, other players might have achance and a fit, trained and improved on clay, of course, Djokovic may be one of them.

This is why I've been saying that I dont have much predictions for clay season at least until Montecarlo, because there are like 4/5 players who could surprise in a positive or negative way.

We just have to wait =/

I think Nadal will win Monte Carlo, Rome and the French Open this year.

Because of the schedule somebody else will win Barcelona(Davydenko) and Hamburg(Roger).

It's possible. But do you think nadal will withdraw hamburg? or just lose?

I dont think he considers the possibility of withdrawing.

He will either lose or withdraw Hamburg. He won't win Barcelona and Hamburg. There's no way he is going to win 4 tournaments in 4 weeks.

That's why I think he will win Monte Carlo, Rome and the FO.

Nothing. Djokovic is a mediocre player.
