I know there was a thread about this earlier in the season, but with Djokovic winning Wimbledon and making for his second multislam year in his career, and overtaking his 2011 ATP Race to London points, I thought it was worth revisiting.

Slam Results: 2011 - 2015
AO: W - W
FO: SF - F
W: W - W
USO: W - W

Masters Results:
IW: W - W
Miami: W - W
M-C: A - W
Madrid: W- A
Rome: W - W
Montreal: W - F
Cincinnati: F - F
Shanghai: A - W
Paris: QF - ?

WTF: RR (1-2 W-L) - ?

Other Notable Results:
Dubai: W - F
Belgrade: W - A
Beijing: A - W
Basel: SF - ?

ATP Race To London:
2011 (Post Wimbledon): 9470
2015 (Post Wimbledon): 9585

Win-Loss:
2011 (Post Wimbledon): 48-1 (97.96%)
2015 (Post Wimbledon): 48–3 (94.12%)

As you can see, with his victory at Wimbledon Djokovic now has more points than at the same point in his 2011 season - in 2015 he reached the RG final rather than only SF, but in 2011 he had a couple of extra titles (Dubai, Belgrade 250) to close the gap a little. His win-loss ratio was better in 2011 with only a single loss in the season, but that is down to his performance at 250 and 500 events not at the big ones. And with the incredible consistency he has found in the last couple of years he is in a position to potentially improve on his 2011 W-L record, considering his poor and injury plagued end to the season in 2011 and the fact that he has gone undefeated after the US Open in 2013 and 2014.

Whether or not 2015 will be better than 2011 basically depends on the US Open. If he loses, then there is probably no way it be considered better, and if he wins it then I think 2015 will almost certainly be better. But whether or not he can repeat his 3 slam success, the fact that he is currently ahead of his 48-1 W-L season is pretty impressive.

Update:
ATP Race To London:
2011 (Post Shanghai): 13070
2015 (Post Shanghai): 14285

Win-Loss:
2011 (Post Shanghai): 64-3 (95.52%)
2015 (Post Shanghai): 73–5 (93.59%)

Well, while in 2011 Djokovic was sitting out Asia after his exertions earlier in the season (which was the only time in the past 7 years that he didn't win Beijing), in 2015 he makes a glorious return there, winning both Beijing and Shanghai without dropping a set (playing only a single tiebreak, and losing more than 3 games only twice). With a 500 title in Beijing he makes up for the Dubai title he won in 2011, and with a 5th masters title in Shanghai he matches his record of 5 titles in a season, and with 2 runner ups he has the best ever season at masters, and has extended his all time ranking points record at 16785.

Re: Djokovic 2011 vs 2015 Comparison (2015 leads 2011 in Race)

2015 so far has had 2011 written all over it, including the loss at RG.
Now he is 48-3 for the season.
It remains to be seen what he does in the USO Series, which was disappointing last year.
He came in underdone last year, but still should have done better than he did.
I think already having 2 Slams will spur him on , and he may finally get that 2nd USO- that imo he needs to cement his place as a hard court great.

Wawrinka is his only competition in the USO I think. His utter shite US swing last year was just a post Wimbledon/Wedding slump.

He will almost certainly do better in the m1000s this year than in 2011. He's won every one he played and with the exception of the Cincinnati curse this is likely to continue.

Novak can win all remaining masters and the WTF for all I care.

A necessary albeit not sufficient condition for 2015 > 2011 is Novak winning the USO.

I think it's better if we talk after he wins it.

If he wins USO and WTF but losses every other event than yes his 2015 will be better,, he needs 3 slams and WTF - YE No.1 is basically lock, i also don´t care about Masters1000. USO and WTF are 2 events he should focus on not other smaller events or winning % for season

Yes that's true. Peak Nadal and prime Federer and Murray.
Yeah I don't think there's any chance 2015 will be more impressive than 2011 because of the competition Djokovic faced that year.

Whether 2015 will be better than 2011 in the end for Djokovic is basically "Will Djokovic win US Open?" If he wins that I would be very surprised not to see him win at least 1 of the 4 remaining masters and to do better at the WTF than he did in 2011.

Last year's US Open series really was an aberration for him in his career from 2011 onwards. I think it was the first time since 2009 or something that he failed to make the QF of back to back masters, and even though he reached the SF at US Open his loss there was probably his worst one since before 2011.

People forget Nole's record of 9-8 in slam finals. It will only get worse as he ages.

I expect him to finish with 11-13 record in slam finals.

No I haven't forgotten, and Lendl was 8-11.
The chances are he will also make less Finals once he ages anyway,, so the record may stay about even.
As long as Novak keeps winning more Slams, the overall Finals record won't count for much.

Good comparison. :yeah:

In my opinion, even if his serve slightly improved, Djokovic played better in 2011 than in 2015 (just look at his BH DTL's decline). If Djokovic wins US Open and WTF, it could be argued his season is better achievement-wise. However, according to me, 2011 will still be his best season in terms of level, unless he can play better in the 2nd half of the year but I don't think he even needs to as he's far above the field at the moment.

This. It could be better result-wise. Doubt it will be better level-wise.

i wouldn't mind if he gets to 11-13 record in slam finals. that means he would win 2 more slams and get into double digit wins. you can color it however you like, but winning 11 GS is so great that 13 losses would never put a shadow in it... you have to be in it to win it, so to me 11-13 in GS finals is far more impressive then 11-0

I hope he actually tries to vulture more 500's so that we could see a player maximize the ATP tour points as much as he can...good for smaller tournaments to get that big of a player, and I don't think Djokovic would even give a sweat winning them, haha.

Montreal: W - F

ATP Race To London:
2011 (Post Montreal): 10470
2015 (Post Montreal): 10185

With a runner up finish in Canada Djokovic falls behind his 2011 results. If he can win that illusive Cincinnati title he will be right back on par with his 2011 masters results though. And Canada was Djokovic's last masters title in 2011.

this year is great but I don't see him matching 2011. Still an all time great season. If he could win Cincinnati, U.S. Open and then the WTF, then it would be ahead of 2011. But that's not likely. He usually plays relatively poorly during the HC swing, then plays better again at the end of the year.

The main difference between those two seasons is that in 2011 he actually played some great tennis throughout the year and had a competition, but in 2015 he is standing the whole season at the baseline pushing to the death, backhand down the line does not exist, he's not aggressive and he has no competition, because of the #WeakestEraEver confirmed.

Dont forget #djokosmash and #djokovolley :wavey:

well its obviously 2011, i mean in 2011 he was better and the competition was better. the stats are nearly identical as well. beating peak nadal and near peak federer is much more impressive than beating a serve botting 33-34 year old federer or murray who is back to his pre lendl mental strength. and nadal who is having a year like federer in 2013. his only real competition is a wawrinka who is redlining his game.
