I don't really speak Italian, but what I would conclude from the following article is, that he was injured a lot, e.g. five operations on his elbow in five years:
La maledetta sfortuna d Javier Marti - Il Tennis italiano

He hasn't played a tournament since April 2018, when he got injured again.

Maybe someone who speaks Italian can translate a little more. Seems to be an interesting article about him.
Very good article. It talks at length about his winning, while playing thru pain. In may had his 4th elbow surgery. When it was found that they damaged the nerve, 2 days later, he had a 5th. He said, maybe enough is enough and it is time to call it quits. When he was a jr, they called him The New Nadal. It is obvious, he is very talented, however, we all have different breaking points. He said, he might give it one more shot, or he may just teach tennis.

Nope, the one that was being called the new Nadal was Boluda, the article mentions how good it was for Marti not to be under the spotlight while he was growing up. It also makes a comparison to Carreno-Busta's career and how Marti could have been in Busta's place had he not being tormented by the elbow problem.

What happened to Chung? He lost in the second round of the AO and hasn’t played a match since then. Those 45 points from that result are his only left and he’s outside of the 300 now. What injury could be that severe to sideline him for more than 6 months now? Does anyone know if he’s making a comeback soon?

Still playing. Was at the Binghamton Challenger this week. Just one of those guys who never made the jump to winning on the main tour.
Thanks man.
He's a really big disappointment, I just saw that he's 402 in the ATP list, guess he plays now semi professional tennis.
